SOME HISTORY
Re: SOME HISTORY
An appropriately radical term for an equivalently radical ideology.

In Hong Kong Socialism is so popular that millions come onto the streets every weekend to embrace it! They are so eager to have their culture destroyed and their rights abolished that they even wield colourful umbrellas and wear unique masks to show their support! Why can't citizens in Western capitalist (i.e. shithole) 'democracies' be more like them?

What does socialism have to do with Hong Kong protests? Stop arguing in bad faith.

It used to be. Now it’s about as socialist as DPRK is democratic. It’s still an authoritarian, one-party dictatorship but with a market economy.

Re: SOME HISTORY
That's what the Chinese current form of government has in common with Nazism: they both have a market-based economy, but centralised one-party rule.
The only thing that's missing from this "one country, two systems" arrangement to be more like Nazism is a charismatic leader and a racial purity myth.

I’d say it’s more of a authoritarian state capitalism.

Well, Xi Jinping did abolish the presidential term limit and enshrined his “Xi Jinping Thought” to the constitution. Plus, he is considered to be the most powerful Chinese leader since Mao.
I’m pretty sure the CCP doesn’t dabble in racial science but it has been trying to make the many ethnic groups like the Uyghurs and Tibetans conform to the Han Chinese society. It has also co-opted nationalism as the main source of legitimacy for its authoritarian government.
I’d hate to equate anyone to Nazis since they were a rare sort of bad historically, but the CCP is closer than most people would think.

I’d say it’s more of a authoritarian state capitalism.
Would you deny that China is a self-described Socialist state whose existence was inspired by Marx, Lenin, and other Communist thinkers of the 19th and early 20th centuries? Would you deny that the origins of the revolution that took place in China from the 1930s - 1940s lay in the Communist movement? Would you deny that the Chinese state represents at least a sincere attempt to adopt Socialism as a means to achieve Communism? Would you deny that China retains all the fundamental trappings of a state attempting to adopt Socialism, i.e. collective / state ownership of land and capital and state-controlled allocation of resources (if not wholly then at least to a greater extent than Hong Kong and other Western nations)?
When making excuses for the Stalinist regimes of China and the like, would you deny that it's unfair not to extend the same charity to avowedly capitalist systems like the USA?
Re: SOME HISTORY
It started that way, absolutely. Since then, it has transitioned it's economy.
I do deny that socialism means state-control and allocation, that's one version of it which I disagree with and has proven to have major issues, degrading into authoritarianism is one.

Funny how all the most ambitious attempts to enact socialism have degraded into authoritarianism.
