Freetalk Friday 1
Re: Freetalk Friday 1
Water pipes cracked open in the bathroom.
Called the technician, he's like: yeah, I can fix it but that'll be at least 100 euros. I say: OK, and end the call.
Got my tools, unscrewed the whole bathroom open, found the cracked pipes, wrestled with them for some time to get them out, they're some of those nasty pexal pipes. The connections were installed like 14 years ago, they were all petrified from the calcium in the water. Impossible to unscrew.
Used some ear clamp pliers to rip the pipes open and just torn them apart piece by piece. The connectors just wouldn't come out. Took a saw blade and just sectioned the pipes. Went to the hardware store and bought some new pipe tees, a couple of compression couplers, some pexal pipe and some cool new tools (a special pipe cutter and an extra wrench for hard-to-reach corners).
After a couple of hours, I rebuilt the whole piping for both cool and hot water in the bathroom. Works like a charm again.
My hands are full of bruises and I'm beat. But you know what, this is great. It wasn't about the money. I just didn't like the attitude of all these plumbers I talked to and were all acting like they're very busy and have a full schedule and don't know if they could come but if I pay extra maybe they could make some room in their schedule. So I just did it myself.

My dad is self-employed is a similar business so I can tell you that he just gets calls for odd jobs here and there, and once there are a couple of them lined up in a specific city or cities along a route, then he will schedule them on the same day to make the best bang for his time/distance traveled. When the heating season starts, business is good and he is not desperate for clients. However in this time of the year he might be less busy and therefore more quick to jump on any opportunity.

I see. Here there's this weird situation in which a lot of plumbers have left the country to work abroad. So now it's easier to find a doctor than a plumber. And when you call them, they try to take advantage of this shortage and charge like doctors.
So I said fuck it, you know what. I'm a plumber too now.

Good thing it closed before I found out it was even a thing. Now when people talk about it, I can think they're just making things upfightinfrenchman wrote: ↑12 Jul 2024, 19:54Frisco's actually just closed all their locations today so you will never get that chance
