Re: Freetalk Friday 1
yeah i do that. my biggest issue with this is that it doesn't make sense to buy anything before going to the toilet if you really need to go and it's a fast food place

Re: Freetalk Friday 1
can some1 better explain to me what is meant by the "base" and the "superstructure"
Re: Freetalk Friday 1
the base = society's hardware, the superstructure = society's software
the HW can be hijacked by the SW to work against its own interests.
the HW is what does the real hard work that keeps the system running.

Re: Freetalk Friday 1
I just came up with a great idea for a cologne.
'The Basement'
You spray it on and you smell like you just came home from the Basement.
Question: what does the Basement actually smell like?

What is wrong with Northern Europeans
Compare and contrast
Murad sums it up quite well

Is this actually true? It seems insane to me.

Can only speak from my own experience but putting Bavaria and Austria into the slightly red zone does not check out for me. Somewhat common here to receive food, espcially when visiting older people.
Re: Freetalk Friday 1
Not really in NL. As a kid I've never been at a friend's place and had to wait while they ate. Either I'd go home before dinner or made explicit plans to eat there (would have to ask permission from my and their parents).
As an adult it's completely unthinkable to be at someone's place at dinner time and not be offered food.

Re: Freetalk Friday 1
The weird bit about all of this is that people stay during dinner time without communicating at all. Its not hard to be normal and ask what the plans for dinner are. When friends are coming over close to dinner time, we communicate whether we want to have dinner together or not.

We always make guests wait for us to finish eating. Any friends or anyone else will wait in the next room.

@Goodspeed and what are your thoughts on that greentext story about the dutch colleague?

Re: Freetalk Friday 1
Some possibilities:
- Made up, like 99% of greentexts are
- They had a running joke about Dutch stinginess and the colleague thought it would be funny
- The colleague is insane

tbf usually greentext is made-up so that everyone can walk the dinosaur.
it sounds like something we would do as broke kids in 8th grade, it would be so shameful to send such a request as an adult

It was a home coffee not shop one. Maybe he didn't really care about exact amount. Just part of what he grew up with. He should have offered to pay for fuel though in such a case.RefluxSemantic wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 10:05Aint no way a coffee costs 50 cents, so its probably fake

Yes, home coffee is much cheaper. Im doing 15 cts per cup and I have a nespresso machine, which is relatively expensive per cup. 40 cts should be the absolute maximum for super luxurious nespresso cups.princeofcarthage wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 10:07It was a home coffee not shop one. Re: Freetalk Friday 1
I don't know, are you sure? Cuz coffee beans come in all ranges, we have one here which sells for 6 Euros/half kg. That if made on stove with milk and stuff would alone come to 0.5 Euros. If made in machine then it would be costlier. Idk if coffee is cheaper or expensive in Europe as compared but 0.5 doesn't sound much.RefluxSemantic wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 11:41Yes, home coffee is much cheaper.
