If some people criticize your candidate in bad faith, that means all people are critizing your candidate in bad faith, and so there's no reason to ever stop supporting them. Good logic

To be fair, listing out a dozen Jewish media moguls during his debate with Johnson felt a bit out of place.

Be careful, Ear will call you an anti-semitic for pointing out that a disproportional amount of the world's wealth is in Jewish hands and in all likelihood are probably responsible for starting every major conflict since the dawn of time!Amsel_ wrote:To be fair, listing out a dozen Jewish media moguls during his debate with Johnson felt a bit out of place.

I'm not pointing out anything. Jeremy "Let's get this shoah on the road" Corbyn is the one complaining about Rabbis with herpes sucking the blood out of baby penises during circumcisions.Mr_Bramboy wrote:Be careful, Ear will call you an anti-semitic for pointing out that a disproportional amount of the world's wealth is in Jewish hands and in all likelihood are probably responsible for starting every major conflict since the dawn of time!Amsel_ wrote:To be fair, listing out a dozen Jewish media moguls during his debate with Johnson felt a bit out of place.

Well, considering how anti-corporate and anti-capitalistic Bernie's message is and how many corporations are run by ethnic Jews, you could see how his campaign could be branded as anti-Semitic.
I mean, the last 3 Fed Chairpersons before the current one were all Jewish boomers (Greenspan, Bernanke, Yellen). Maybe Bernie saw a pattern there and he became anti-capitalistic, aka anti-Semitic.

I take it subtlety isn't your forte.

Yep, the amount of sarcasm in my post is not subtle at all.

Yes as many on the left have said and been told, no it’s socialism. Brexit and demeaning of Corbyn’s image as an anti Semite or English hater swung the vote.

Re: UK general election thread
Yeah it was most definitely Brexit and the leadership. It would be stupid not to point to the smears on Jeremy Corbyn and the complete bias of the majority right wing media in the UK but this is by no means the soul reason. The leadership sort of neglected working class voters and focused on their big flagship 'controversial' policies such as free broadband and didn't emphasise enough the policies that working class people wanted to see. In my opinion they should have diverted attention and 'costing finances' away from these polices and into things like ending poverty, building more social housing and other areas that working class voters felt completely ignored on. The manifesto itself actually contained a lot of progressive, transformative and realistic policies, the likes of which were (mostly) popular amongst the voters: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/p ... 14276.html. Johnson and Cummings did a good enough job of pitting 'politicians vs the people' and creating a distrust that meant people couldn't or rather wouldn't trust anyone to deliver anything and thus anything radical was dismissed out of question by a lot of people. Couple that with 88% of Tory advertisements that were misleading: https://www.itv.com/news/2019-12-06/88- ... isleading/ and you have a situation where Johnson and his team were over exaggerating the labour parties proposals and using false information or manipulated statistics to reinforce this 'politicians promise all but deliver nothing' rhetoric. With regards to Brexit, I think the leadership did take a logical approach. when half your party are metropolitan remainers and half working class leave voters what position can you realistically take? What completely surprised me is that the leadership overestimated the remain vote leaving to other parties and underestimated the loss of the working class and leave voters. The issue now is rebuilding trust in the working class. The problem is that Johnson is likely to have a decent record if he manages his term in office well as he can deliver on all his promises given that he promised very little. What people will probably fail to realise is that the alternative is that they could actually have a lot more then Johnson will give them.n0el wrote:Yes as many on the left have said and been told, no it’s socialism. Re: UK general election thread
Delusional. The UK media is run by out-of-touch metropolitan political science majors and is strongly biased against Boris Johnson and the Conservatives. Remember the Channel 4 debate? Or Andrew Neil calling Johnson out on air? Or the many times journalists have quoted Johnson out of context to portray him as racist? Voters are aware of this bias and have become disillusioned with the mainstream media. Same shit that brought Trump to power.

Do all of you ridiculous populists ever not feel like victims of a grand conspiracy or is that just a permanently condition?

It is you who are the victim of a grand conspiracy, believing that I am a populist and that ‘populism’ is a coherent political view as opposed to a pejorative epithet ascribed by mainstream commentators to people with whom they disagreefightinfrenchman wrote:Do all of you ridiculous populists ever not feel like victims of a grand conspiracy or is that just a permanently condition?

Re: UK general election thread
I wouldn’t say populism is a just a pejorative epithet used by modern commentators when Plato and Socrates also cautioned against it two thousand years ago. But it’s certainly funny to see those on the left who preach more subsidies and welfare complain about populist policies offered by conservatives.
The scientific term for China creating free units is Mitoe-sis.

Johnson promised he would cut taxes so that everyone's individual income would increase. Same outcome, different methods.
Re: UK general election thread
Those two things generally don't go together. The people "on the left" generally support "populist" policies. The people in the center, and neoliberals especially, care about global corporate welfare, so of course they shun all populism as some type of pathway to fascism.occamslightsaber wrote: But it’s certainly funny to see those on the left who preach more subsidies and welfare complain about populist policies offered by conservatives.

Re: UK general election thread
I mean as I said, 6 of the daily newspapers in this country support Boris Johnson. Boris Johnson had every chance to turn up to the channel 4 debate or to an interview with the conservative Andrew Neil but he didn't and that's just bad electoral practice so you can expect any broadcaster to empty chair someone that doesn't turn up. I could name many more instances then you have to portray bias against other politiciansHorsemen wrote:Delusional. Re: UK general election thread
Johnson pretty much copied Trump's media strategy. Blaming media bias against him while using their dysfunctionality to his own advantage, that being profit-driven sensationalism. Of course this included a smear campaign against the main political rival. All of that turned out as free campaigning from media side as well as confusion among the people consuming media, helping his crude and sometimes baseless statements and populist image to gain even more traction.
You know something went horribly wrong if „For the many, not the few“ loses to „Get Brexit done“. That brutal shortsightedness is devasting
