Weed legal
So Iām pretty sure there is a new law that is passing on January 1st in the US that will make weed legal in all of the US. I believe it is legal for you to have a certain amount of weed. Maybe someone can confirm/ post news article about this. How is it in the rest of the world? Is it legal just in Amsterdam or legal in all of Europe?

Re: Weed legal
Contrary to popular belief, weed (non-medical use) is not legal in Amsterdam or in The Netherlands as a whole. Not a single country in Europe has legalized the recreational use of weed.
Re: Weed legal
This. While I strongly recommend legalizing Weed as it removes most black markets, regulates quality for safe usage and harbours the possibility of profiting through taxes (in contrast to just spending horrendous sums on "fighting drugs"), it has not happened anywhere in the EU afaik.Mr_Bramboy wrote:Contrary to popular belief, weed (non-medical use) is not legal in Amsterdam or in The Netherlands as a whole. Especially in Germany the discourse is ridiculous. I remember our "drug representative" and CSU-member (Bavarian branch of the conservative Merkel-Party) years ago talking about why they won't legalize weed, pointing towards the missing "cultural roots" in contrast to beer and alcohol to justify it. No other reasons delivered

It's decriminalized though, which is probably what he is referring to.Mr_Bramboy wrote:Contrary to popular belief, weed (non-medical use) is not legal in Amsterdam or in The Netherlands as a whole. Not a single country in Europe has legalized the recreational use of weed.
Re: Weed legal
It's not legal here and weed legalisation is not a big issue here, because average consumption is lower than in the US. About 12% of Americans use weed, based on some stats I've seen, while in Europe consumption rates range from the highest in France and Spain (11%) to the lowest in Hungary (1.5%), so the European average is probably around 6%. There simply are fewer people who care about weed legalisation here to turn this into a political issue.
Re: Weed legal
Itās only legal on a state level. Illinois just passed their law and takes effect soon. Michigan voters passed it by referendum last fall, and the first stores opened yesterday

Re: Weed legal
The house judiciary committee recently passed the MORE act. If passed, this bill would legalize marijuana on the federal level. [1} However, in order to pass it needs to survive a floor vote in the house of representatives. [2] Then it would go to the senate, where it has a chance of being filibustered, and it takes 60% of Senators to break through a filibuster. [3] If it gets this far, it would also need presidential approval. If he signs it, it becomes law. If he doesn't, then it would take a two-thirds vote by both the house and the senate to pass the bill into law anyways. [4] This bill is very unlikely to become law. [5]
However, there have been recent developments on the state level. Marijuana recently became legal in Michigan, and will soon be legal in Illinois. [6] There are 10 states where marijuana is legally. Here is a map of legal status by state. [7]

Re: Weed legal
Did legalisation change anything in those states? Is drug-related crime declining, as legalisation advocates claimed it would happen?
Re: Weed legal
Many cities where marijuana was legalized saw an increase in violent crime. The argument is that legalization makes the black market more competitive, and people get more violent over drugs in a competitive environment. [1] However, it is possible to argue that this is the result of other factors. Colorado and Washington did, however, see an increase in the number of solved violent crimes after legalization. [2] The argument for this is that police have more time to spend on these cases, instead of handling marijuana related crimes; however, it suffers from the same issue of being unable to prove a causal link between legalization and crime clearance rates. I have not seen any data showing a decrease in drug-related crime, though.Dolan wrote:Did legalisation change anything in those states? Re: Weed legal
It is still illegal in my country. It will be for a long time too I think. (Norway).
- But you know, for decades nothing happens, and then ............... maybe things can change really fast. I guess that is dependent on what other countries in Europa do.
I do not mind ppl using weed, but its not anything I fancy, after my few trials. It was really scary for me.
