Thoughts on the true crime genre?

Post by fightinfrenchman »

There are multiple very popular TV shows, podcasts, etc. about this kind of stuff. I was just reading some stuff on the unresolved mysteries subreddit and it really freaked me out and made me paranoid. I'm wondering who here enjoys that kind of content and what makes you like it

I fell into the trap a few years ago. I am not even sure what the first show I watched, but I do like the documentaries. Probably the first one I saw that resonated with me was How to Make a Murderer.

I just watched the Aarron Hernandez one on netflix and it was interesting. I never knew several of the details of that story.

Yes. These shows are usually mini-series or documentaries about real crimes that occurred. They generally get very detailed and provide insight from lawyers and footage of trials not previously seen. Usually they also interview the families of victims and defendant's. When I watched that Dont F$#@ with Cats documentary, I was not surprised he turned out like that after the interview with his mom. Holy shit that woman is crazy and out of touch with reality.

This isn't totally "crime" related but it is a really wild and depressing story

The series Fargo takes some stuff from actual events and makes some stuff up at the same time. I highly recommend it even if it isn't 100% accurate compared to real events.

Fargo is a great show but it's 100% fiction.

I have seen it a few years ago, so i might not be remembering very well. The show has for sure some references to the sioux falls massacre of 1973 but i can't remember precisely if it actually has anything to do with it or not.
I am doing some research on the plot and yes, apparently it's about a completely different thing. My bad.
