@Dolan what did you expect? No, honestly. When you have people like Ear who enable these pharma companies and the government. They think joe biden is some good hard working president. He is the same guy who struck down the efforts to regulate prices according to the article.
Fine line to something great is a strange change.

Why do normal paracetamol/ibuprofen tablets come in count of 100 in US? We get here in 10 or 25 ones I think and it has expiry period of 2? maybe 4 years idk exact, anyways I still have expired packets with more than half the tablets. Do you guys really take so much medicines?

Apparently, the US medicines market is quite closed, imports are disincentivised through trade policy, which explains why US pharma can sell at such high prices.Dolan wrote:"Trump says he will allow states to import prescription drugs to lower costs"

B-but I thought trading is bad, it's helping globalism and eroding national sovereignty. Also "they need us trading with them more than we do". Looks like that's not the case. American companies are pricing drugs so high, only imports could help bring prices to a more accessible level.
So by taking such a decision, Trump is basically proving himself wrong. He's proving the USA does need to trade, because the local health system and pharma sector are just so entrenched and powerful, legislators and the government can't do shit to reign them in, without letting (foreign) competition have its say.
Muh freedum and stuff. Freedum to tell you: buy this medicine at this high price or go get buried.U.S. prescription drug costs are the highest in the developed world because most other countries negotiate pricing directly with manufacturers, while drug companies are allowed to set their own prices in the United States.
Also Trump contradicted himself here, because he was waging a trade war with Europe and then he came out with this, which means he admitted trade isolationism was actually bad for the US, at least in this case

Americans are raised to take and prescribed strong opioids for any amount of pain that can be considered a nuisance, so I'd imagine they take regular painkillers for even the slightest discomfort.princeofcarthage wrote:Why do normal paracetamol/ibuprofen tablets come in count of 100 in US? Ibuprofen? It’s an over the counter opioid free NSAID and non addictive.
When I’ve suffered a sports injury, I’ve been directed by a doctor to do a regimen of 800 mg four hours apart, maximum four dosages a day. The most common mg dosage is 200 mg/pill but you can get 500 mg too.
Everything in America is sold in bulk. It’s a consumerist society. You can buy them in smaller packages, but it’s a better deal to buy a lot. Americans love deals.
Anti inflammatory non addictive drugs are good when you’re overworked in manual labor.

They have severe side effects if taken regularly and/or in high quantity including damage to kidney, liver, heart. It can also lead to painkiller addiction where you take medicines at the slightest onset of pain. Treating pain with painkillers is also bad.

They lack resilience and they want a quick fix, because that's how their society raised them. "If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime."Goodspeed wrote:Americans are raised to take and prescribed strong opioids for any amount of pain that can be considered a nuisance, so I'd imagine they take regular painkillers for even the slightest discomfort.princeofcarthage wrote:Why do normal paracetamol/ibuprofen tablets come in count of 100 in US? What I mean by this is that there are other ways to deal with chronic pain and depression without numbing your senses with external drugs. Better and more permanent ways, and even beginners can curb pain and recover from mental imbalances with meditation for example.

literally any drugs will have long term effects on kidney and liver when used in excess.

It’s amazing how many America experts are here today. Is it really that hard to check the CVS website and see that painkillers are also sold in 24 counts and 50 counts in the US as well? It would blow your mind to learn that some workplaces have vending machines that sell them in individual packets. Too many ESOC takes about America border on those of Orientalism.
The scientific term for China creating free units is Mitoe-sis.

My post wasn't serious but there's definitely a culture of overmedicating pain the US. Don't have to be an expert to know that

Re: COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak
Articles, documentaries, anecdotes, etc. Frankly I thought it was common knowledge.
Can recommend this doc about the subject. Being a documentary it zooms in on a specific part of the issue, but still
Basically, prescribing opioids for pain has been normalized there. The contrast to here is very striking.
Question to everyone here: Have you ever been prescribed opioids for pain?

Re: COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak
Anecdote, through 4 surgeries and numerous ER visits I've never been prescribed opiods, nor am I aware of anyone who has.
Re: COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak
Is the fact that Americans are commonly (relative to other places) prescribed opioids for pain, and that this is a major cause of the opioid epidemic, actually news to you? Or are you just being contrarian
