Re: COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak
People like Jotunir are funny. Of course natural factors can lead to global warming. Nobody would deny that. But the point is that in the case of the current observable and further predicted climate change all of these theories based on natural factors having a large impact on it have been proven wrong consistently in a manifold of studies over multiple decades. You are riding a dead horse. It died in the 70s.
Admittedly, I'm not even sure whether this horse was even alive in the 70s. There are articles like this from 1912, which clearly link the burning of fossil fuels (coal in this case) to warming weather. Arguing along the lines of Jotunir is nothing but believing in a geocentric universe even after Copernicus proved the heliocentric with a proper mathematical model. It just attests gross level of ignorance, likely to be shaped by internalized belief systems.

This is such a weird thing to say. Re: COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak
The psychology of this sort of behaviour is strange to me. I did a masters in physics and I feel like very few of my friends actually have the capacity to complete a degree like that. Yet, when talking to some professors I became extremely aware of how their intelligence absolutely dwarfed mine. And then you realize that scientific consensus is basically the result of these unimaginably smart people collectively agreeing on something that is their field of expertise. So scientific consensus on any specific subject is basically the result of the very smartest people on earth dedicating their lifes to some subject and then collaborating on that one subject until they reach consensus. And then some dipshit like jotunir comes along and he believes his shitty attempt at doing his own research actually holds any form of weight at all.

If you dedicate enough time and resources anyone can learn anything. The amount of time taken differs but calling your friends dumb is quite ignorant and egoistic.
Fine line to something great is a strange change.

Re: COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak
Why and since when physics is the baseline for human intelligence? How does mastery of the subject you spent your life dedicating to determines one's intelligence? Aren't you confusing well educated with intelligence and at the same time comparing apples to oranges? *Not saying anything specifically about your professors, that's irrelevant to the discussion.

"The virus" really just isn't even on my mind anymore. I have a mask in my pocket at all times just for certain stores but I just don't really care about it and everyone I know is fine. It feels good

The vaccines are effective. You will be fine, and in all likelihood even if the new variant is more dangerous, by the time it gets anywhere close to you you'll probably already be getting a booster nglXeeleeFlower wrote:The new variant has me freaking out a little.

I know if you're travelling internationally there are all these dumb things, but I'm saying there shouldn't be (once every country gets to a point where everyone who wants a vaccine can get one)Goodspeed wrote:@fightinfrenchman You keep saying the virus is over etc. Do you ever travel? New strain is apparently resistant to the vaccines. There is a case in Belgium, which is right next door soooo...fightinfrenchman wrote:The vaccines are effective. Re: COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak
My favourite vaccine company (BNTX, you name it!) already started preparations for a potential escape variant of the virus multiple months ago. The process is relatively simple. BioNTech needs 6 weeks to fit its vaccine to the new variation. Then it takes 100 days to deliver the first vaccines.
