Omicron is non-lethal to you? It might be 30-40% less lethal than Delta, but that still makes it lethalchris1089 wrote:Sounds like Omicron to me.Mr_Bramboy wrote:Why don’t we just develop a super infectious and non-lethal strain and spread it around the world to end the pandemic? Rutte wake up

Similar idea is usually achieved with vaccines.Mr_Bramboy wrote:Why don’t we just develop a super infectious and non-lethal strain and spread it around the world to end the pandemic? Rutte wake up

Re: COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak
I dont really think its a big risk tbh. If it would spread in those situations, people would be infecting dozens of people at the grocery store.Goodspeed wrote:Kind of has me wondering if it's even worth it to go get a booster right now, might be better to just quarantine for a month and wait out the wave
Since there's so many people at the vaxx place it seems pretty likely you'll get infected there
The r value is still below 2, so when you catch it you spread it to less than 2 people on average. Would one of those 2 be a person at the grocery store? If I would catch it and Id spread it to my girlfriend and two friends that I had beers with, that'd be an above average outcome. No way you infect people while waiting in line, wearing a mask, at 1.5m distance.

I feel like the person behind me in the grocery store is usually maintaining a solid 0.2m distance

Re: COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak
According to UK experts the r value of omicron is between 3 to 5
In many Indian cities where there is community transmission, the reported r value is 2.5+

If there were no restrictions, like quarantaining, maybe so. Right now in NL its about 1.5.
Re: COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak
based on what data? everyone agrees the Ro of omicron is over 3 more like 5-8 depending on vaccination statusRefluxSemantic wrote:If there were no restrictions, like quarantaining, maybe so. Right now in NL its about 1.5.

Re: COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak
Based on the current growth of the number of cases. At the moment 1 infected person infects approximately 1.63 people (RIVM: meer dan 200.000 positieve tests in een week, bijna helft bij jongeren - https://nos.nl/l/2412702). Thats the real world data, affected by current restrictions and vaccination status. Given the fact that people are still going to busy malls and generally still see many others at small gatherings, I doubt that something like a big vaccination location poses a serious threat.n0el wrote:based on what data? everyone agrees the Ro of omicron is over 3 more like 5-8 depending on vaccination statusRefluxSemantic wrote:If there were no restrictions, like quarantaining, maybe so. Its not updated to the latest value of 1.63 but this also tells the story. It cant be as contagious as some people claim it is. That just doesnt make any sense.edeholland wrote:https://coronadashboard.government.nl/l ... uctiegetaln0el wrote:based on what data? everyone agrees the Ro of omicron is over 3 more like 5-8 depending on vaccination statusRefluxSemantic wrote:If there were no restrictions, like quarantaining, maybe so. Yeah the number is always at least 2 weeks old because of the incubation period.

Re: COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak
Each country had different experience with the virus. Although first detected in South Africa, it quickly receded and didn't leave much destruction while it has ravaged most of Europe and America at least in terms of number of infections. In India also cases are dropping remarkably fast despite increase in testing. Russia is even worse hit, number of cases are similar to US (relatively) but is facing higher death rate.RefluxSemantic wrote:Its not updated to the latest value of 1.63 but this also tells the story. Re: COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak
that data suggests no difference between delta and omicron, which seems like it can't be accurate.

Re: COVID-19 / Coronavirus Outbreak
Researches have shown that virus loses its ability to infect in air as it attempts to survive. So really transmission is only possible in close proximity. Dutch introduced restrictions pretty early on. If they managed contact and people did social distancing + masks + vaccines then the virus doesn't really have lot of options to spread. That could explain the spread similar to delta.n0el wrote:that data suggests no difference between delta and omicron, which seems like it can't be accurate.

If you are talking about what I/edeholland linked, you need to look more closely.n0el wrote:that data suggests no difference between delta and omicron, which seems like it can't be accurate.

People have really just convinced themselves that the vaccine doesn't exist/does nothing. It's insane

We have a similar saying here. If an ant gets into the ear of the elephant it can even make elephant dance. We are the elephant. Virus is the ant. And it's making us dance.
