fightinfrenchman wrote:Not putting a poll for this one since there are so many words. This was inspired by Callen telling me to watch a movie called Synecdoche, New York, which reminded me how much I like the word "synecdoche." Some other words I really like:

- Waterlogged
- Thunderbolt
- Serendipity
- Superfluous

I will post some more when I think of them. Please post your favoite words (@mods delete the inevitable racist comments please)
I concur with Thunderbolt

I fear this thread will consist of all words in all languages at some point.

I actually avoided posting Romanian words much, since almost nobody would get the appeal.
But Romanian is a way better language phonetically than English. First of all, because there are no rules for pronounciation that make your tongue twist into knots and your mouth contort and purse into a grimace. Everything is read exactly as it's written, letter by letter, basically like classical Latin. Except we also added a layer of Slavic fluency, which strikes the perfect balance between the crisp and straight character of Latin and the fluidity of Slavic languages.

The world would be so much better off if we adopted Latin as a lingua franca again, instead of this weird tongue twister that English is.

Was just wondering why don't people use "really" more in its literal sense, like: Let's not just talk hypotheticals, let's do this really. [ree-uh-lee]
Meaning "in a real way".

Same for "basically" which has become too much of a filler word. It should be used more in its literal sense: We only covered these topics basically.
Meaning: they were just touched on a bit, but nothing beyond an outline was provided.

I think you should work on smoothing that brain so you don't waste so much time pondering.

Ritter is knight, Reiter is rider, just fyi :)

To contribute sth productive: one of my favorites is slipgefahr, just because it was everywhere in Amsterdam's red light quarter and slip as a anglicism(?) for female panties is still kinda used (or at least understood) in german, while gefahr means danger. So essentially a district full of prostitutes had signs saying "danger of panties" everywhere and it fucking cracked me up.

You are right, I got confused because the words are very similar :?
