Fenestration is a good, useful word. I didn't realize defenestration is a better word.

Levée en masse sounds like crushing tyranny. Beautiful word(s).
The German translation "Massenaushebung" is the optimal counterpart, since it sounds more like something used by an aristocrat's bureaucracy. For some reason I always pronounce it with an Austrian dialect in my head.

Is Austrian German as bad as Swiss German?
Re: What are some of your favorite words?
Austrian German sounds rather pretentious to me, while Swiss German sounds more like an incomprehensible peasant language. But hey, that's all southern German dialects and they share their traits with Swabian, Franconian, and Bavarian dialects. In contrast, Rhinelandic dialects are, obviously, the only acceptable dialects.

When I went to Switzerland they understood me (I guess I have a British accent) but I couldn't understand a word they said except for the time I asked someone to speak "hochdeutsch."

Not a word, but it'd be spiffy to count darknesses.
