I watched “Patton” the other day — it was majestic, the first film in a while to jump into my top 25 list

I straight up do not believe you keep a running list of your top 25 favorite movies. That's too manypecelot wrote:I watched “Patton” the other day — it was majestic, the first film in a while to jump into my top 25 list

Watched Downfall. Damn that's a good movie.
Time is wise and our wounds seem to heal to the rhythm of aging,
But our past is a ghost fading out that at night it’s still haunting.

I have a dedicated spreadsheet about films I watched on top of a Polish film website where I rate them on a scale of 1–10; I'm actually quite pleased with that, but it could be improvedfightinfrenchman wrote:I straight up do not believe you keep a running list of your top 25 favorite movies. it's iconic I sometimes incorporate quotes from it to everyday life, with the latest being Göbbels' “kapitulieren niemals!”XeeleeFlower wrote:Watched Downfall. Damn that's a good movie.

watched 22 minutes from the beginning and it's been boring so far. just the regular hollywood chasing and shooting scenes, then Reeves with the usual 'concerned' haggard face, larping as a hacker in an office, in front of a screen with trickling green l33t code symbols.
and the quick shifting from one plane of action to another. quick take the pill, blue or red. blrb.

Dunno what to think of Wes Anderson's movies. They are meant to be esthetic and witty, but they just feel 'blabby'
I didn't enjoy watching The French Dispatch and preferred The Grand Budapest Hotel better.
Re: Official Best Movies Thread
you need to stay focused, characters usually don't mess around talking, they get straight to the point; during “The French Dispatch” I felt that the last scenes with the police somewhat lost their magic, they were typically in order, but after 2 hours of such stylisation, the novelty can wear off, but maybe it goes to show how unaccustomed we as viewers are to a little bit of artistry and to filmmakers treating their audiences seriously
I think his films are quite important to the industry as a whole, focusing on smaller things in life and in film, like niche subjects, central framing, perfect (total) composition of scenes; I'd rather watch “The French Dispatch” for the 5th time than “Dune”, “The Last Duel” or “Spiderman”

I guess I'm not sensitive to this kind of work. Modern art museums bore me and I like my steak well-done, so yeah I believe I am that kind of guypecelot wrote:you need to stay focused, characters usually don't mess around talking, they get straight to the point; during “The French Dispatch” I felt that the last scenes with the police somewhat lost their magic, they were typically in order, but after 2 hours of such stylisation, the novelty can wear off, but maybe it goes to show how unaccustomed we as viewers are to a little bit of artistry and to filmmakers treating their audiences seriously

it's far from it, though: by “modern art museums” I assume you mean postmodernism, abstract expressionism and whatnot, which openly define the settled norm (if there even are any), and which hinge on revolution; Wes Anderson's films, however, still fit into the structure of common storytelling (tools like build-up, pay-off, comic relief) and filmmaking (characters being, you know, inside the frame); I see it more as an evolution — not necessarily staring in awe at a toilet in a museum for 5 hours to contemplate what it actually represent, but rather writing a history essay on how horses were treated during XVII-century wars

I would hate to be a famous film critic. Sometimes when I make a post about a movie being bad I think about the people who made it and proud they probably were when it was finished and I feel like an asshole

Re: Official Best Movies Thread
well, there are movies that are objectively bad, done by people with bad vision and by people who just don't really care that much; my anxiety in turn would be to actually confront XXXX number of movies made since, say, 2010, out of which only like a 5% would probably be worthwhilefightinfrenchman wrote:I would hate to be a famous film critic.
