Did the movie any mentions of people who get paid to write negatively about certain political candidates while getting paid by another one and not disclosing that fact?pecelot wrote:samefightinfrenchman wrote:Idk if this is actually in the movie or a jokeDolan wrote:O, and I thought she was supposed to play a potential Hillary as potus, given that she had framed pictures on her desk with her hugging Bill Clinton
I thought that her purpose was a not-so-subtle critique of the last two presidents; if you're not into it, then Jonah Hill probably won't help, he goes in deep with his “spoilt personality”

Matrix 4 spoiler
This film was horrible.
First part weak wannabe parody/satire of the old Matrix with cringey references to the old films.
Later on a mediocre action film with out of place romantic and comedy elements.
And overall lacking any sort of Matrix feel, look or vibe. Colors, no sense of dread, no danger for the protagonists, no scary antagonists. Even the fights didn't look impressive.

Well I just saw Nightmare Alley, with the only thing I really knew going into it was that it took place at the circus and a funny Reddit comment that said Rooney Mara's character poster looked like Tom Hiddleston in drag (which is true). And holy hell is this movie a lot

Re: Official Best Movies Thread
Just watched fantastical beings 2. The vision Grindelwald has about WW2 fucks the entire movie up, series of movies even. It either belittles the Shoa and WW2 or kinda means one has to root for Grindelwald, who also is willing to murder and enslave thousands or millions, but the Nazis actually happened and murdered people so they have to have precedence? Honestly fucks my mind. Makes the entire series much more interesting but also inevitably steers the entire thing into one horrible quagmire of moral dilemmata, that made the movie extremely uncomfortable to watch after that.
imo not the right way to include WW2 and the holocaust in a movie. Should have either made sure Grindelwald and the Nazis aligned or have left actual historical context a faint mrror image that is only sometimes loosely referenced in the universe.

Movies I watched in the last weeks:
The Town. I enjoyed it as much as the first time. Pretty good movie overall.
The Adjustment Bureau. Excellent leading actors but very cringe at times.
Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013). I preferred the first one.
Finch. Somewhat good, but could have been much better.
Zero Dark Thirty. Quite boring until the last scenes.

Hahaha I just remembered I watched the Adjustment Bureau in theaters. Don't they have to wear fedoras to do the thing? I remember thinking that was funny even at the timeDjigit wrote:Movies I watched in the last weeks:

Just watched "The 355." There were a few action moments that could have been cool but the shaky cam and bad editing ruined them. Pretty bad writing all around, and in a few scenes Jessica Chastain seemeed like she was legitimately reading off cue cards. I like Lupita Nyong'o but she really didn't get much to do

For some reason, I cannot not dislike Jessica Chastain. (triple negative combo ngl tbh)fightinfrenchman wrote:Just watched "The 355." I remember thinking the new startrek movies were pretty good. Never watched the show or seen any of the old movies though.

Honestly, except for the hardcore nerds, very few did especially outside the US. We normies were the target.gibson wrote:I remember thinking the new startrek movies were pretty good. Never watched the show or seen any of the old movies though.
JJ Abrams did a good job at thish; that would explain why he was chosen to direct the new Star Wars movies.

Rise of Skywalker was literally laugh out loud terrible. It made me legitmately depressed to think that could have been the last movie I ever saw in a theaterDjigit wrote:Honestly, except for the hardcore nerds, very few did especially outside the US. it wasn't unreasonable to assume that the final product would be different to what it eventually turned out to be

Just saw Zola, it's a fun little movie, has a little spin on the "based on real events" thing. Colman Domingo was great, can't believe he's 52.

I'm lacking the words to properly describe how happy I am that I deliberately chose not to see this movie in a theater or waste money on it in another way. Had the pleasure to watch this trash when my brother shared his Disney+ subscription with me later on. Everybody said its bad, I expected it to be bad, it was even worse. "Somehow, Palpatine returned". That must be the most underwhelming plot "twist" in the history of cinema and it's a perfect fit at the peak of the arc of suspense of the entire trilogy.fightinfrenchman wrote: ↑14 Jan 2022, 21:30Rise of Skywalker was literally laugh out loud terrible. Re: Official Best Movies Thread
Yes, RoS was horrible. In fact, the whole plot of the entire sequel trilogy was laughably bad. The ST did have decent acting and good aesthetics ("feels like SW"), but everything close to the story is like horrible, horrible fanfiction:
- Episode 7 had a decent plot - but only if you ignore the rest of the Star Wars universe. It was a lazy, unimaginative rehash of the original "Star Wars" movie. A boring soft reboot. It also makes zero sense to just reboot the essentially same conflict, make the Empire the Big Bad again and destroy the Republic. Horrible, laughable writing.
- Episode 8 was, for the most part, a rehash of Episode 5+6 of the originals. It also randomly killed off Snoke who was introduced as a mysterious big baddy in Ep7 beforehand.
- And Episode 9 was the worst, plot-wise. Just bring back Palpatine with no build up or anything, what a joke
