I think COVID has really shown how we are capable of working together as a planet to tackle common existential threats
Not sure if trolling, but yeah it has. The thing with COVID though is that it was an immediate threat. By the time climate change becomes an immediate threat it will be too late.
It has been particularly inspiring to see major world leaders like Donald Trump and Bolsonaro leading the effort

Personally i am with Goodspeed on this. In normal times institutional inertia seems to make huge reforms essentially impossible to pass, and once the effects of climate change will be enough of an external shock to be a catalyst for change it will be way too late. Can't really see a way out of this deadlock tbh.

Agree to disagree on that one. My vote wouldn't have made a difference. Neither did yours.

I don't agree to disagree. You're dumb for not voting

There's still beauty in the world, with or without climate change. It will just become harder to find.

Yeah but if millions thought same like you it makes a difference. It makes enough difference to tip election.
Fine line to something great is a strange change.

Why would i? I am probably privileged enough to have a decent life despite climate change.

And yeah i genuinely believe that because most theories of political change, organizational theory, sociology, policy change and what not have something in common: that actors are conservative, that change is hard to achieve and often the 'minimum-winning coalition' type of change. And these theories seem to hold true if tested against reality time and time again. There is little reason to believe that that is suddenly going to change in the next 30 years.

edit: not voting sends a message btw., one that is heard by political actors. I personally would still always vote but its not as if not voting suddenly removes you from the political system.

In 5 billion years the earth will no longer exist and nothing we do today can change that

You see that's too broad, because that may not be bad. Again, the definition matters. Also what may be bad for one country may be good for another.

Human induced global warming that will lead to the average temperature on the earth rising by effects such as the greenhouse effect (but not limited to that), ultimately leading to natural disasters, melting of the poles, sea levels rising, animals and plants dying, huge streams of refugees from affected areas and the ensuing political disaster that is likely going to happen. That's essentially what i am referring to under the label 'climate change'

I also don't think it makes sense to create different discussions and definitions for different countries, considering this is a natural phenomenon affecting the entire globe not a social one that might differ on account of human difference.

Yeah I wasn't trying to seriously engage with you, because of all the dumb posts you make.

I feel like that's a movie you really liked because it portrayed eating bugs as some gross thing

I think eating bugs is gross because it's gross, not because some anti-globalists keep memeing against it.
But I didn't like the movie just because it villified eating bugs, nop.

But in the movie it makes no sense that they're grossed out by it. Like, if you want protein, what do you expect? They can't raise cattle on a fucking train

It's a movie, it's supposed to depict a dystopian future, so they included some stuff that would shock. They could have tried hydroponics or smth.
Wait, they actually did have quality protein produced in the frontside part of the train, but they weren't for the plebs.
