Pretty confident coach David Cox will pick Fatts Russell in the starting 5 as he pulled a great performance against the pirates with 17 points.

Yea honestly Cox would be stupid to drop Fatts, just watch the title game of the PIAA last year. Can't bench a bloke who scores 25 in the title game.

Choosing the starting 5 has been one of the bigger challenges that Rhody's coach David Cox has faced.

From my perspective, the Rams have found success from the bench. It will be interesting if Coach Cox can navigate a game plan that will allow his starters to hold it down, and let the Bench Boys, or BBs as we like to call them here in Rhode Island, to bring it home. That being said, there will need to be some bloodthirsty BBs eager to take the court when their number is called. I do not like calling names, but DJ Johnson is going to need to bounce back and bounce back hard if he intends on making an impact for our Rhody Rams.

Good point the Rams really have 10 players that have earned floor time and they'll need strong performances from their BBs if they are going to build on there early success.

a bit off topic (might make a second thread here soon) but Rhode Island Womens Basketball welcomes Maine Friday for the non-conference finale at the Ryan Center.

RHODE ISLAND VS. MAINE - SERIES NOTES
The game will be the 25th meeting between the two schools, and the first since Dec. 8, 2012.
The all-time series is knotted at 12-12. The Rams won the last matchup in 2012, 51-38.
Maine will visit Kingston after facing Providence Thursday for its season opener. The Black Bears are coming off a two-week pause of winter sports at UMaine.
Rhody is looking for its first win on the season. Most recently, the Rams fell at Massachusetts 79-69.
The Black Bears finished 18-14 a year ago, and were 12-4 in America East play.
Maine returns 2018-19 America East Player and Defensive Player of the Year Blanca Millan after the fifth year missed majority of last season due to injury.
Graduate senior Johanna Muzet and redshirt junior Emmanuelle Tahane both lead the Rams with 16.3 points per game. The duo scored 20+ points last time out at Massachusetts. Muzet (26) and Tahane (22) both had career-high performances.
Freshman Mayé Touré made her first career start at Massachusetts.

Jermaine Harris missed his third game of the season Wednesday.

The University of Rhode Island forward did not travel with the team to No. 13 Wisconsin. Harris is dealing with what a Rams source described as a “mild illness.” He’s tested negative for COVID-19 to this point and will continue to be monitored closely.

Harris was out of uniform for URI’s first two matchups in Bubbleville while dealing with a foot injury. He received a pain-killing injection and made his season debut at Mohegan Sun Arena in an 84-68 victory over South Florida. Harris played a season-high 21 minutes off the bench last time out as the Rams surged past Seton Hall, 76-63, at the Ryan Center.

Harris started each of his first 63 career games, covering his freshman and sophomore seasons. He averaged 5.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in 2019-20 as URI closed 21-9 overall. Antwan Walker and Makhel Mitchell have served as frontcourt starters for the Rams in each of their last four contests, including this meeting with the Badgers.

SUPER SENIORS: Rhode Island has benefited heavily from its seniors. Fatts Russell, Jeremy Sheppard, Antwan Walker and Makhi Mitchell have collectively accounted for 57 percent of the team's scoring this year and 69 percent of all Rams points over the team's last five games.FATTS IS A FORCE: Russell has connected on 25 percent of the 32 3-pointers he's attempted and has made 5 of 14 over his last three games. He's also made 84.2 percent of his foul shots this season.

DID YOU KNOW: Rhode Island has attempted the fourth-most free throws in all of Division I. The Rams have averaged 29.5 free throws per game.

@Sensei I think its a lower scoring game. something like 72-61 for the Rams. Hilltoppers should try to slow the pace in the first half and more of a grind it out game, but Sheppard and the boys should shoot well in the second half.

ASSIST RATIOS: The Hilltoppers have recently used assists to create buckets more often than the Rams. Western Kentucky has 48 assists on 88 field goals (54.5 percent) over its past three outings while Rhode Island has assists on 24 of 71 field goals (33.8 percent) during its past three games.

Hilltoppers are having an upswing from last season as they're 4-2 out the gate. That's a marginal advantage over the Rams but I think our defense has outclassed theirs in all games to this point. It might be a bit optimistic, but I think the Rams will eek out a win this Sunday, predicts 68-65.
