Whenever I see this I am amazed the plastic container can hold all that weight. I hope he does not keep it stored in there, that plastic tends to get more brittle in the sun.

I do like how it illustrates relative buoyancy.

Mercury itself has some pretty amazing properties, and reacts very strongly with many metals, apparently not Iron.... part of the "riddle of steel"

In the Michelson-Morley experiment, they tried to measure the velocity of the aether, and to do so they needed to rotate an interferometer (which is an ultra sensitive measurement device). To achieve this, they put their setup into a bath of liquid mercury as any mechanical form of rotation wouldnt be precise enough.
