Many travellers from inner China have been blocked in Xinjiang for months, and they're "helping" them to "find a job" in xinjiang, including gathering cottons.
I used to thought BBCs are making fake news everyday. I apologize.
Commentary on how Korean culture is defined by collectivistic mentality (that's how those chaebols thrived) and they do not try to seek an individual escape from a terrible situation because that would be seen as breaking with the group, while some guy (presumably some Western or Euro tourist or expat) goes it alone and manages to get away from the thick of that crowd.

oh is this footage of the stampede before the stampede?
Yeah it shows what the situation was as they were getting trapped in that human quicksand situation and couldn't either move on or go back, they just went with the flow

Today, the chaebols, especially Samsung, ARE Korea. Korea profited a lot from the system that may now undermine the state itself. Korea can't exist without the chaebols anymore, but they can without Korea.

China SUDDENLY canceled nearly any covid test and lockdown in a week. 10 days ago they're still saying how many died/disabled in western countries, and now they say "just a flu" "no test no positive", just as Trump said.

this was my thought as well. current oversupply of housing could cause some firms in the construction market to shutter if they are unable to adapt in time, perhaps leading to a contraction in the industry, but also a reorientation towards construction of other types. i figure this could still be a good in the long-term, as now instead of capital being used in service of rent-seeking ventures it may be put towards ones that facilitate the expansion of productive capacity as the housing market slowly recovers.
looks like we may be up on this. there may be a deemphasizing on the construction of new real estate properties and instead an emphasizing on developing the amenity and economic function of existing ones. while the poverty allevation programs of the '10s was pretty much the last era of state investment which leaned on the 'quantitative' side of the scale for the development of the chinese economy, bringing another vast cohort of the rural population into formal and mechanized industry, the '20s and beyond will increasingly skew the slider towards 'qualitative' development.
spoiler
the 'quantitative' of the past may have been measured in the percentage use of arable land, while the 'qualitative' of the future will be measured in its yield per acre. despite these 'technological developments' i might still prefer importing my pork
