Re: Asian politics
Why, what do you get from shooting a retired, already suffering politician
Fine line to something great is a strange change.
Re: Asian politics
Secret service incompetence tbh, the killer was right behind him with a messenger bag and nobody was keeping an eye on someone so close to their objective

Re: Asian politics
They probably would have thought he was part of the team as he was so close, besides Japan has some of the strictest gun laws making it very hard for individuals to acquire guns. Maybe no one expected a shooting.

Re: Asian politics
It was a home-made gun. The guy was a member of the maritime coast guard at some point.
The secret service always knows who's part of the team and who isn't. At every moment. They also know your entire background if you're part of the team.
Well ..they should.

Re: Asian politics
He was just sitting there like 7 meters behind Abe. Then at one moment he started walking forward and started shooting.
No reaction whatsoever from Abe's bodyguards. They could have plunged at the attacker after the first shot. They just stood there.

Re: Asian politics
Murdering leaders are actually quite common in Japan history. In 1920-30s, DOZENS of politician/generals (that didn't agree with invasion upon China and the world) are killed by frenzy assassins, leading to unstoppable Fascism and wars (and the destruction of empire in the end).
Assassinations rarely happened after world war ii. The last time was in 1960 by a Japanese communist. After 62 years, it reminds us of the bloody old days. Plague, starvation, war, assassin... a world war is not far away.

Re: Asian politics
@Dolan dude everything happens within 5 seconds, the bodyguards did rush and pinned the attacker down. It takes a second for human mind to process.

There was no agent monitoring any potential attacker behind the suite
It's really Security 101 stuff. Maybe he just had a very low-key security detail, since he wasn't a leader anymore or just waived having a bigger detail.
The first shot didn't even hit Abe. The second one weirdly hit only Abe, in multiple places.
After the first shot, when they saw the attacker walking up to the group and aiming for a second shot, they had time to plunge at him and parry the shot.
The mistake was not to have one single agent simply looking in that direction and pulling the gun out that very second when the attacker aimed.

Re: Asian politics
These assassinations had not been happened in Japan for 60 years, and politicians forgot the old days. They tried to pretend to be "close to the people", and dangers are following. It's even not difficult to murder the emperor before today, let alone a former leader.
Re: Asian politics
Yeah they seem out of practice, they're not used to training for this maybe
Re: Asian politics
A kick in the face for Putin, as Kazakhstan is the largest ex-Soviet republic and owns a lot of oil and uranium

Can't wait until 4chan is shut down
Re: Asian politics
Japan's invasion of China bears some parallels to Russia's invasion of Ukraine tbh.fei123456 wrote: ↑08 Jul 2022, 13:13Murdering leaders are actually quite common in Japan history. "China is the puppet of British and USA, and Japan is to free them from the west"
"Japan and China share the same history, words, language"
"China is abusing Japanese immigrants, and we should liberate them"
"The west has abandoned China, and ... is sending their civilian to meaningless destruction"
Re: Asian politics
Not to mention Japan expecting to conquer China in three months, only to get bogged down in a years-long war of attrition, as well as the parallels between pan-Slavism and pan-Asianismfei123456 wrote: ↑10 Jul 2022, 12:26"China is the puppet of British and USA, and Japan is to free them from the west"

Taiwan should move all their chip manufacturing to Europe and the USA. They might have a few years left.
Re: Asian politics
If coffee is good for you, grab a cup of, if not get a Capri Sun or something. Time to speculate.
Why is Pelosi doing this.
1. Wants to dare the Chinese:
- if they shoot her plane down, it leads to military conflict between the USA and China, which could defuse internal political polarisation in the USA, focusing everyone on a common external enemy, like back in WW2
- if they don't shoot her plane down, she scores political points, making the Chinese look like they chickened out of their own threats
2. She's afraid Dems will lose midterms and wants to create a political shock that will make Dems look bold and assertive against China.
3. She has some incurable disease and wants the Chinese to blow her plane up to turn her into a historical figure.
Re: Asian politics
So far it looks like she's gonna chicken out of it
