There's the olimoleague, there was shoutcraft king before TotalBiscuit died and there are the Wardii events. So last year it was 3 small events each month, and now it is still 2 3-5k$ events per month. And I didn't even mention NationWars or Underdogs.
SC2 is looking better than ever in terms of build diversity and strategic depth. They did a good job with the expansions and patches. Early on the game was very different and by comparison pretty boring imo.

Its different, but not definitely better.e
More units, more eco options, more agressive options. Honestly the game is more complicated strategically, mech, bio and sky are viable with terran, zerg can play hydra/ling/bane, muta/ling/bane, roach/ravager, toss has like 5 unit compositions, also all the 3 races are a lot more versatile in late game.
Sc2 is in decline viewer numbers go down all the time.

Prize pool has been increasing mostly for WCS and WESG but many other major and minor tourneys have been discontinued. If you look at players' earnings, actually those who are in top spots for SC2 peaked from 2011-2014. And that's despite the fact that tourney like WESG count for half the earning of recent top players (e.g Maru with 300k from wesg 2016 and 2017).

No. Except SoS and life, the players with the most earnings (Rogue, Innovation) got there thanks to these 2 last years.
https://www.esportsearnings.com/games/151-starcraft-ii Well ye they got there thanks to last 2 years, but as I was trying to say it's mostly WESG and WCS with the insane prizes for finals. If look the vast majority of top earners they grabbed more money during 2010-2014 just because that was the most active era and they were the most dominants players.
Ye it is possible. My point is that it is due to WESG tho which is a giant money thrower and doesnt tell much about the state of health of the game. Back then you had way more tourneys going on. Also I think there is some money inflaction effect too as it is an almost 8 year difference from the start.
baically prize pool is increasing because of 2 reasons. 1.Theres overall a lot more money in esports because it grows more and more in popularity thanks to games like lol and the battle royal games which also pushes other niche esports games. 2. Blizzard is just being Blizzard and massively supporting sc2. Without blizzard sc2 would be only a shadow of itself for a simple reason.( still more succesful than aoe3 but quite frankly i think it owuldnt be higher in populairty than aoe 2 at all.) No money => no pro scene => no one cares . Its always the pro scene that dies first.
anyways i think garja is mostly right.

Aoe3 is kind of game if you dont like it at first, you will probably never bother to play again. There are many problems to get a decent gameplay (ftj, homecities, lobby bugs, finding someone to play with, herding) as a new player. U need friends to help you if u are new, or you should be really passionate.
