Re: Music you're listening to
thank you so much for posting this - world eater was one of my favorite records of 2017, and schlagenheim is bound to be somewhere near the top of my list for this year. to hear them meshed together is going to be insane; will listen ASAP!
Re: Music you're listening to
@Cometk Schlagenheim is groundbreaking. I first listened to one piece by them, Speedway, a couple of months ago, when it just came out and I didn't get it, I thought they were just some random noise band spewing out distorted tunes. I liked the video more than the song. But then things started clicking, I realised it's not about whether, after you listen to them, you can take away some melody you can whistle. Their stuff creates an atmosphere in which chaos is unleashed, song form is almost torn to pieces and the listener is sent flying into a black hole of rotating sound waves. Greep's manic voice leads all this infernal machinery of guitars with a preacher's tone, the guy sounds like spoken word performers, like Kate Tempest or some random UK street preachers. He uses this weird diction, I don't know much about UK dialects, might be some Welsh accent or from another UK region, but it all sounds arrogant and indicting af.
Occasionally, I wondered if they're not just a bunch of frauds who just happened to be very good at capturing the current mood in culture and just vent their exasperation at all these nicely packaged forms in music (clean beats, clean synths, predictable harmonies). So they managed to rise to notoriety superfast, because they served people exactly what they wanted, something unexpected. I'm still not sure if they're just frauds who got lucky or they're actually worth the hype. Maybe that's the whole idea behind their music, you never know if they're just fucking around or it's exactly what they want to sound like.
