But do you actually care more than thinking about them for a second? Like it's very sad, but people after a day or a week just don't care. It's why it's not broadcast in the west.

I think they would be okay with people living in third world countries dying en masse
Would you honestly care? Like here's an example did you care about the 28 people who died in Kabul yesterday? Did you even hear about it? Like it's nice to say you actually care about these people you've never met but most people only really care about people they know.
The news coming from the middle east, with killings, mutilations, refugees, self bombers, over many years now, make us kind of sleepy. It's the same ALL OF THE TIME, almost every day. But we should never forget who made this mess in the first place (USA and UK).
When 100s of millions of ppl come to our borders because they cannot make a living where they are now, you will care 2

There's a difference between thinking about the people who've died and seeing it as a tragedy and actually caring heavily about it. It just doesn't impact you the same as if the same occurred near to you.

You don't have the mental resources to empathise with how many people die of terror attacks or other conflicts every day.
That's the perversion of media, it makes you aware of too many things, for which your brain hasn't adapted yet (and may never even adapt to such an extent). At some point, you will have to decide how much you want to empathise with, set some limits that are relevant to your life, filter our the rest.

You don't have to be constantly overwhelmed with sadness about people dying around the world to want to make a difference.

The whole planet has an inborn right to live on welfare in Germany and Sweden, tbh.
If you oppose this idea, you probably have Hitler posters in your room.

I understand why you'd want legitimate refugees coming into western countries. However the vast majority aren't
They're economic migrants, especially in regards to immigration from south east asia and india.

I'm fine with that...
It's time for the USA to go the way of the Roman empire. They also tried to be a multicultural empire and they collapsed.

running away from poverty, you mean?
How about almost all of India and Africa will run from poverty soon? Do you still think it's not worth getting a Green New Deal

It's a catch 22, if you let some come in freely you'll get a mass exodus. Immigration is fine as long as that person is bringing something or is running from conflict or persecution. For example Australia's point system for immigration is good, it doesn't discriminate it just allows people they need in the country in and other out, a 100 percent fair system. Meanwhile in the UK immigration is mixed, with some good immigration and some immigration that is low skilled and is simply filling low skilled jobs that could be filled with British citizens, think of factory work. Also culture, although less important, is also worthwhile to look into. Some cultures simply have traditions or aspects that don't fit in western society.

This latest brexit saga is a mess. I really hope they don't get another extension .. quite frankly I'm getting bored with the brexit news in my feed. Let's just get it on with and let them rejoin in a year once they've realized what a terrible idea leaving was.

What is really, really strange to me, is that the same ppl who oppose the Green New Deal, also oppose immigration. That does not make any sense to me.

Re: England maybe leave EU june 23.
That might be because employers/companies in the UK might have told them they actually need access to certain kinds of migrants that will take their jobs without making a big fuss about working conditions or payment.Riotcoke wrote:Dolan wrote:So how do they get elected if voters don't support their policies?
Since the 80s it's been on the tories manifesto to reduce immigration, while the opposite has happened, people are just too apathetic to cause real change so they just vote for the two parties constantly.
I don't think Brexit will solve this issue. I've seen managers from UK companies saying that after Brexit they will need to replace Poles and Romanians with Russians, Ukrainians or people from Belarus. It seems that there are some kinds of jobs in the UK that nobody really wants and companies can only stay competitive by importing cheap labour from elsewhere.
It's something we're starting to see in Romania too, where textile manufacturers are bringing Vietnamese and other poor Asians to work here on a temporary basis.
