My polaris is working after 3 yrs, I see no immediate need to replace..

Rayvacs typically get the dirt out of hard to reach areas much better however .

Well, you know those motors. Very unreliable, waiting for the pool store to get my a new one. And my dog chewed through my cord like it was nothing

No black marks from the rayvac surprisingly. The pool is currently covered!
I don't think the black marks are really that big of a deal, as much as I've heard people say they can be. The Ray-vac shouldn't be hitting the sides of your pool anyway.
