Dealing with Toenail
Ok my toenail on the big toe won't grow correctly, it grows to full length with bad discoleration then I release it at the beach (in the water) once it choose to fall off. Any idea how to stop vicious cycle?

Re: Dealing with Toenail
I had some issues with my toenails before too, i'd just go for a dermatologist if I were you. It can be due to lot's of different stuff, hard to tell
I used to have lot's of ingrown nails, so the guy took a razor blade one day, gave me some rubber to chew, and now 1/5 of my nail is gone forever but no more issues .
I also had another issue (nail was like 5x thicker than it should be), was due to my shoes.

Yesh, I believe what started the cycle was some boots that messed up the nail bed/nail matrix. I believe now that the dividing cells in the nail matrix are messed up which cause the nail not to grow back correctly.

Re: Dealing with Toenail
someone once told me you have to cut them of in square, not round shapes.
What can help is to play soccer with shoes that are a size or so too small. Proceed to do so for like 5 weeks. Your large toes will get blue/black and fall of over the course of a year making them unable to do other retarded stuff. lol.

You see , that's basically what caused the vicious cycle

exactly. You have to cut them straight (not rounded), so the pressure when you walk/run is spread on the nail, less chance of them breaking.
Also, the 2 sides of the nail don't get in the skins (which creates ingrown nail) when you cut them that way.
I don't think your matrix is touched (not sure, but it happened to me on fingers and it was quite painful), but you might need some type of small intervention by the dermatologist, like removing most of the nail so it can regrow btter or smtg like that.
Sometimes you have to apply a cream cuz it can be some weird bacteries also..
or cut everything and problem solved

Re: Dealing with Toenail
well when I played soccer with shoes too small the large toenails where basically blue/purple for a year. They almost completely stopped growing. At some point they would tear at the base, up until a point where it started to move and I had to (very painfully) remove half of the nail. Under it I could see the nailbed was kinda destroyed too haha (it has like this tear in it) , but under it was already a part of a new nail growing every time haha. Happened twice with both toenails so 4 times basically. I should still have some pictures of the brutality haha but those might not be appropriate for this forum. It ended up being fine though.

Re: Dealing with Toenail
Go to a foot doctor and get this taken care of. If you don't do so now, you will have even worse stuff to deal with later (ingrown nails, infections, etc.). But a doctor should be able to fix it right up.

Do what papist has suggested. I have a friend who missed a semester of college due to a foot operation on an ingrown toenail. He was forced to withdraw that semester because he missed 3 weeks of school due to extensive surgeries and recovery. Today's idiom :"Better now than later."

I'm not sure you guys are understanding the situation completely... the nail has entirely come off multiple times and is now not growing back in any sort of a normal fashion.

It hasn't caused me any real discomfort in the probs ~ 8 years I've had it so I feel like it's not important. However I realize such complacency could cost me big somewhere down the road, a realization that only is uncomfortable if I think about it which I try not to.

You have good reason to be uncomfortable. Go to the doctor.

What issues can a nonexistent toenail cause?
