Post by thebritish »

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. The VP Dev Team is proud to announce the first public release of Vane's Patch.
After a little bit over a year of hard work, the Patch is ready to be released to the public.

This post is gonna be split in four points.
1. My thought-process about the most important changes
2. A changelog for all the patch changes
3. Credits
4. Where to download the Patch and how to install it
All Civilisations now start with 6 additional Settlers. French and Germany start with +5 Coureur des Bois and +3 SettlerWagons Respectively.

This change is supposed to speed the game up a little bit. No more AFKing for 5 minutes before the actual fun starts.

All Setters now cost 75 food/wood/coin depending on the civ (down from 100 food/woon/coin depending on the civ) and they take 20 seconds to be trained (down from 25).

This change is supposed to give an advantage to players who have the APM to train vills.

All Resource Shipments have been buffed (+100 for Colonial, +100 and +200 for Fortress and +200 and +400 for Industrial):
500 food/wood/coin has been increased to 600 food/wood/coin
600 food/wood/coin has been increased to 700 food/wood/coin
700 food/wood/coin has been increased to 800/food/wood/coin
800 food/wood/coin has been increased to 900 food/wood/coin
900 food/wood/coin has been increased to 1000 food/wood/coin
1000 food/wood/coin has been increased to 1200 food/wood/coin
1300 food/wood/coin has been increased to 1500 food/wood/coin
1600 food/wood/coin has been increased to 2000 food/wood/coin

Resource crates felt abit underwhelming compared to the unit shipments, so we've decided to buff them up alittle bit.
With this change players have the option to opt for a boomier playstyle rather than send unit shipments and then put 3 hands on D.

The Arsenal now costs 100 wood (Down from 250 wood).
The Arsenal tech Pillage now costs 200 wood and 200 coin (down from 350 wood and 250 coin).
The Arsenal tech MilitaryDrummers now costs 200 wood and 200 coin (up from 150 wood and 150 coin).
The Arsenal tech MilitaryDrummers has been buffed to increase Infantry Speed by 15% (up from 10%).
The Arsenal tech Bayonet now costs 200 wood and 200 coin (down from 400 wood and 400 coin).
The Arsenal tech Bayonet now increases Musketeers ranged multiplier vs cavalry by +0.50x.
The Arsenal tech IncendiaryGrenades now costs 200 wood and 200 coin (down from 400 wood and 300 coin).
Now increases Grenadier multiplier vs Buildings by +0.50x (up from +0.30x).
The Arsenal tech PaperCartridge now costs 200 wood and 200 coin (down from 350 wood and 350 coin).
Its effect has been changed to 15% (up from 10%); It now affects all AbstractRangedInfantry (from AbstractGunpowderInfantry).
The Arsenal tech Rifling now costs 200 wood and 200 coin (down from 200 wood and 200 coin).
The Arsenal tech CavalryCuirass now costs 200 wood and 200 coin (down from 100 wood and 300 coin).
The Arsenal tech GunnersQuadrant now costs 200 wood and 200 coin (up from 100 wood and 100 coin).
It now increases Artillery LOS by 10 (up from 6 LOS).
The Arsenal tech InfantryBreastplate now costs 200 wood and 200 coin (down from 200 wood and 200 coin).
Now it increases Archers Hitpoints by 15% (up from 10%)
The Arsenal tech Trunion now costs 200 wood and 200 coin (down from 400 wood and 200 coin).
The Arsenal tech Flintlock now costs 200 wood and 200 coin (down from 200 wood and 250 coin).
Its effect has been changed to 15% (up from 10%); It now affects all AbstractRangedInfantry (from AbstractGunpowderInfantry).
The Arsenal tech ProfessionalGunners now costs 200 wood and 200 coin (down from 400 food and 100 wood).
The Arsenal tech HeatedShot now costs 200 wood and 200 coin (up from 150 wood and 150 coin).
Now it increases Artillery multiplier vs ships by 2.0x (up from 1.5x)
The Arsenal tech Caracole now costs 200 wood and 200 coin (down from 200 food and 300 wood).

The arsenal upgrades were way too expensive for the stats they gave so we decided to lower the cost of the upgrades.

Exiled Prince now costs 10% more (1320 food and 1100 coin instead of 1200 food and 1000 coin).

Exiled Prince was used in almost every single game by every single civ that has access to it, so we decided to nerf it alittle bit.
We opted for cost increase, so eco heavy builds can still use it to its fullest potential (by paying more resources)

Dragoon type units (Dragon, Cavalry Archer, Ruyter, WarWagon, Yabusame, Zamburak, Howdah, Keshik, MusketRider, BowRider, EagleRunnerKnight) now have 0.25x vs AbstractVillager (down from 0.50x).
Now all Skirmsher type units have 0.50x vs AbstractHandCavalry and AbstractCoyoteMan (down from 0.75x).
All Archaic Archers (Longbowmen, Crossbowmen, Yumi) now have 1.5x multiplier vs Heavy Infantry (up from 1.25x).

Massing one unit was stronger than its supposed to be, so we are making units counter each other harder than before.
On the other hand, bow units felt abit weak when facing musketeer rushes, so we're increasing their multiplier versus heavy infantry.

TownCenters now have 1.50x multiplier vs AbstractCavalry and AbstractLightInfantry
Bounty decreased to 200 (from 240).
TownCenters now cost 500 wood (down from 600 wood)
TownCenters now increase the population by 15 (up from 10 pop).
Colonial age adds +5 population cap.
TownCenters now take 40 seconds to build (down from 60)
The homecity shipment CoveredWagons has been changed to give 1 covered wagon and increase the build limit of TownCenters by 1 (now costs 500 wood)(from only giving one coveredwagon)
The shipment has been moved to Colonial age
The homecity shipment CoveredWagons2 has been moved to the fortress age (down from Industrial age)
The homecity shipment ConestogaWagonsTeam has been moved to Fortress age (down from Industrial age)

Towncenters were a high risk low reward unit, so we decided the lower the cost abit and lower the time it takes for them to be built.
The covered wagon was very underused and with the changes to the town center cost and the buff to resource crates, it was definitely game over for it.
We kept the covered wagon as a viable option for eco heavy playstyles and added an extra effect to the fortress age shipment and moved it to colonial while also moving the indutrial age shipment to fortress age.

The build limit for Warships has been removed.
Warships now cost population. (100 resources = 1 population):
Caravels now cost 4 population;
Galleys now cost 4 population;
Galleons now cost 8 population;
Fluyt now cost 6 population;
Frigates now cost 10 population;
Monitors now cost 8 population;
Canoes now cost 1 population;
WarCanoes now cost 3 population;
TlalocCanoes now cost 5 population;
Funes now cost 4 population;
Atakabunes now cost 6 population;
Tekkousens now cost 10 population;
WarJunks now cost 4 population;
Fireships now cost 2 population (The build limit hasn’t been removed for this unit);
Fuchuans now cost 12 population.

Warships were alittle bit too strong when defending the coast line, so we've decided to add a population limit to them. Now, the water player has to choose between making land army and warships.

SaloonWildWest now costs 500 wood (no change) and 500 coin (up from 400 food)
Now increases Outlaw-type units attack and hitpoints by 50% (up from 35%)
Now adds +1 build limit to Saloon and Monastery
Elmeti, Mamelukes and Li’l Bombards are now unavailable to train in the Fortress Age.
Hire Egyptian Mamelukes home-city shipment effect changed to give 4 Mamelukes (down from 5).
Mercenaries now have Colonial stats:
Jaegers now have 210 Hitpoints (down from 250) and 25 Ranged attack (down from 30)
HACKapells now have 246 Hitpoints (down from 295) and 101 attack (down from 121)

Stradiots now have 488 Hitpoints (down from 585) and 47 attack (down from 56)
Manchu now have 334 Hitpoints (down from 400) and 22 attack 9down from 27)
Highlanders now have 334 Hitpoints (down from 400) and 52 attack (down from 63)

Barbary Corsairs now have 263 Hitpoints (down from 315) and 23 attack (down from 28)
Landsknecht now have 358 Hitpoints 9down from 430) and 45 attack 9down from 54)
Ninjas now have 334 Hitpoints (down from 400) and 17 attack (down from 20)
Li’l Bombards now have 400 Hitpoints (down from 600) and 270 attack (down from 400)
European Mercenaries now auto upgrade to Veteran and Guard stats.

The upgrade cards for mercenaries made them abit too strong in fortress age, but past fortress age, most mercenaries were useless because of the lack of guard upgrades.
We fixed both problems by adding colonial stats to all mercenaries while at the same time adding a guard upgrade for them.
You can download the Patch here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

After downloading the zip file, you need to extract it. You'll get age3v.exe DATAPV.bar splashv.bmp and a folder named RMV.
You need to move those files to your installation directory which would be located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Age of Empires 3\bin for Steam and C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires III for the disk version.

This is actually pretty genius. It is like starcrafts princple of speed mixed with aoe. I definitely have to try this. Aoe has always seemed slow to me especially after playing starcraft 2 for so long. It really would have been interesting to see if this is the path microsoft/ES would have taken if the game was still supported. I have always had the feeling they would have started making the game faster in ways like this. The RTS community (majority) I think prefers high EPM demanding style like SC2.
