What law?
In France the IP is a private data, and one isn't allowed to store or share it.

Re: ESO Packet Tracker
cba to search the law but the IP adress is a private data, and you aren't allowed to store it.
From what I read, sometimes you can't even sue someone who did something illegal on the internet because you aren't allowed to use his IP.

Re: ESO Packet Tracker
I guess he's talking about the GDPR
Relevant part:
I don't think this means you can't store IPs, but the data must be secure (not sure if that's the case or not)
Relevant part:
Controllers of personal data must put in place appropriate technical and organisational measures to implement the data protection principles. Business processes that handle personal data must be designed and built with consideration of the principles and provide safeguards to protect data (for example, using pseudonymization or full anonymization where appropriate), and use the highest-possible privacy settings by default, so that the data is not available publicly without explicit, informed consent, and cannot be used to identify a subject without additional information stored separately. No personal data may be processed unless it is done under a lawful basis specified by the regulation, or unless the data controller or processor has received an unambiguous and individualized affirmation of consent from the data subject. The data subject has the right to revoke this consent at any time.

Re: ESO Packet Tracker
GDPR only applies to organizations. You're free to save any personal data as an individual, just like you have your friends' phone numbers saved somewhere.

Hum, if it only applies to organizations, then it's fine.
What if someone stores an absurd amount of IP adress or phone numbers and shares it to an organization though? Would it be legal?

Probably not for the individual. The company would have to account for the large number of ip addresses without source though. They'd have to figure out who these ip addresses belong to and ask for consent before they can legally store them.
I say probably because I'm not 100% familiar with GDPR. Also, keep in mind that GDPR is a European directive, which means that its content is not literally represented in EU member states. EU member states are free to fill in the blanks when implementing the directive while still following the basic premise. In my country, the national law AVG is stricter than GDPR.
