ESO population data files have stopped updating
ESO population data files have stopped updating
Sad news for developers, I just noticed yesterday that the population data has stopped updating in both of these files:
http://agecommunity.com/_server_status_/pop.txt
http://agecommunity.com/_server_status_/pop2.txt
It seems to have happened within the last month or so, since I've been using this data recently for my epic-slow pop graph. If you were using this for something, it's just not gonna update anymore. What's even worse is that the files have been apparently reverted to a state from November 2015, so about half a year was lost. In light of this, I have forfeited sleep last night and made my own script as quickly as possible to start collecting population data from the status page and save them into my own database. I have no frontend to show yet, but know that I'm not letting this go away. I also may be able to pull out the missing months from the backups of my epic-slow pop graph, but I was only saving them as a cache and it's kind of messy so, not sure.

Re: ESO population data files have stopped updating
It seems the query API (http://www.agecommunity.com/query/query ... UT&md=user) is no longer updated as well, since like the 1st of April.
Really sad, this was used to create stuff such as the ESO2 Friends app, XaKOps' AoE3-stat or the reddit bot. Now none of these will work anymore

Japs and Jonatas have you covered, I believe...

You can see stat before 14 March 2016

Nice, it seems they're actually working on it and brought back data up until 14th March at least. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I have hope now.XaKOps wrote:notification

Heh, time constraints I guess. To be honest I had to slack on real-life work for the whole past week to work on aoe3 stuff. Now I'll have to catch up..
I've actually offered musketeer help during initial ep development, but at the time he felt more comfortable working alone, which I understand. He told me to contact ryan about helping elsewhere, but to this day I haven't gotten around to it and it's been 7 months jesus christ
So yea, I'm not great at managing my free time..
Re: ESO population data files have stopped updating
^_^ no biggie, tbh it's not like there's a big ass project going up soon (afaik) other than getting the patch and launcher with more features 'n shit

According to my past experiences with aoe3 community, there's always some big-ass project being worked on, right now "Project for the community" seems kinda big. And heck, even I might have some projects in the works

what you mean universal launcher and stuff ?
i'm also super curious about your own projects. the ones which made you a bit late irl.

I mean: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=5864 Well, not yet sure if it's even a good idea to do this, but it's interesting nonetheless.

I can tell you about my own projects, I always value feedback:
1. As mentioned in OP, I'm now collecting population data on my own and I'd like to make a new, better online population graph than the slow one I have. This is something that could be later ported to ESOC if there's interest in that.
2. I've been attempting to remotely connect to and communicate with the ESO servers outside of aoe3. Researching this actually took the most time. I've managed to get a few responses from ESO, but anything of real relevance seems to be gated behind encrypted communication which I was not able to understand. If we could do this, I believe it would be possible for example to have chats with people inside the game while you're not inside the game and much more. However, understanding the encryption might be very hard and I am not even experienced in this area so I kind of hit a dead end.
3. I'd like to make a simple online app that checks whether ESO is online as accurately as possible. Right now I think it's quite cumbersome to check if numbers on status page are increasing or having to start up the whole game. With the research I've done for 2., I can actually ask ESO directly to see whether it's on and I know a few other servers that ESO needs to run properly. This is something that might be considered for EP launcher as well imo.
Re: ESO population data files have stopped updating
Those are some fairly interesting implications, definitely get in touch with buckethead if you wanna work on the launcher.
otherwise some of the stuff you're researching is over the top of my head. how do you communicate with a server directly?? doesn't that sound like hacking? or are you emulating aoe3 itself in a way that allows you to chat and stuff
that is pretty interesting, not gonna lie

Hmm, I guess I am emulating aoe3 behavior here, which could also be considered hacking.. my intentions are definitely good though!
Anyone who knows the ESO servers' address can send requests there, you can even just open the address in your browser, but ESO will only respond to certain kinds of requests that the aoe3 program knows. Basically I observed how aoe3 communicates with ESO when I log in for example. Then I tried to ask ESO servers the exact same thing from my own application entirely unrelated to aoe3 (only to a very limited success).
Aaand, it seems I'm already summoned for a skype chat

This one would be cool. A gameplay mod launcher for aoe3, filling the gap caused by absence of a steam workshops. All possible UI modifications, easily installed and uninstalled, quality of life improvements like Hotkey mods, a hotkey editor, changed friend foe colors, building rotator, aiz obs UI easily installed through it, mappacks easily updated and installed and whatever else the fine modding gentlemen can come up with.
EDIT: I forgot custom hotkeys like agra fort hotkeys.

No idea, looks like they reverted the file again for some reason.

If you can still see the data I recommend saving them, I think you might have it cached. I've just confirmed in a private incognito window that the file is reverted again, for sure (both pop.txt and pop2.txt).
Actually it would be helpful if you can send it to me or attach it here, as I didn't save it..

Thanks! This should let me recover the missing data in my db more easily.
