Because it's christmas design. And you're not supposed to run on bottom or top of the map anyway

You are supposed to pick w/e angle you prefer, including intentional flank moves. As for Christmas I understand the snow but you could not pick the worse lighting.

Re: The ESOC Time2Micro Weekend Tournament
The point of ttm is to outmicro your opponent, not to try to surprise him by coming from a cheesy angle. There's still easily enough space to maneuver your units.
I didn't pick any lightning, I just used a snow terrain. Idk if that also affected the lightning somehow. If it's really a problem I can try to change it, even though I personally think it doesn't matter.

It's a problem, kinda. Prob less of a problem if you use the lowest graphics possible. Pick a normal lighintg like "default".
As for the angle thing, I do think coming from a cheesy angle is totally part of micro, especially since every other realistic element is already excluded from the scenario.

Lol I've seen people bring their ronins all the way around your army so that they come from behind you and hopefully you get surprised/trapped. Imo this kind of stuff is not micro and has no reason to be in a ttm.

When I pick the default lightning it's like super, super bright

Re: The ESOC Time2Micro Weekend Tournament
I've tested the map, but it doesn't feel like a time to micro. The rivers limit the movement of the troops quite a bit --> No surprise factor, it's rly only micro now. I switched to the minimized UI because of ttm.

it's unit positioning which is part of micro

Time to line battle - just saying
If you can anticipate the cav charge it makes it less interesting, that is my main point, but it's your tournament.

Ye that's the problem with snow terrains. I would still prefer default lighiting over long ass shadow ligthing, but anyway try yukon or great lakes winter.

Re: The ESOC Time2Micro Weekend Tournament
I did put great lakes winter lightning already. Looks fine now I think
About the map shape, I personally don't care that much honestly, if everyone wants me to remove the rivers I can do that. I just designed it like this cause I was asked to do a christmas design. That and I personally think that running around the map isn't the point of ttm.

Re: The ESOC Time2Micro Weekend Tournament
I think unit positioning which includes flanking, trapping and splitting should absolutely be considered as a part of micro

Re: The ESOC Time2Micro Weekend Tournament
I don't understand how trying to use the fog of war to surprise your opponent is part of micro. Besides it's not unit positioning

Re: The ESOC Time2Micro Weekend Tournament
It is because you can't anticipate the position and you have to adapt on the fly. Also it is a mere fact of microing in different directions. And last but not least, circular map just makes for different dynamic when you're trying to hit and run with your last units.

Re: The ESOC Time2Micro Weekend Tournament
I can agree with the hit and running argument. However I really don't get the point of coming with a weird angle. If both players do that, it's just hide and seek lol, and when players find each other one might just get lucky with a better angle or some free kills

Re: The ESOC Time2Micro Weekend Tournament
Let it be hide and seek if someone wants to. Also adaptation is a skill. It's too easy to know exactly where the opponent is coming from. Also it is a skill having good mouse tracking in all directions, not just left-right.
Re: The ESOC Time2Micro Weekend Tournament
From the few times I've played ttm, my experience is that it's all about understanding the trick for each comp. Either that or keeping the longest range unit alive
