This Sunday, June 9th beginning at 15:00 GMT...

The return of the ESOC Grand Tour,
kicking off this weekend with the
$100 Underused Cup!

>> Click here to sign up! <<

France, Britain, Germany, India, Russia. What do all these civilizations have in common? They're played way too damn often! As per the usage statistics of the most recent major tournament, these civilizations are disproportionately seen in tournament games, and are getting pretty stale to watch! The Underused Cup, the first event of the upcoming ESOC Grand Tour Season 2, will see all of these civilizations banned from play, leaving the 9 least-played civilizations in a tier of their own − the Underused Tier, or UU for short. With the most common civs barred from competition, will we see an entirely new metagame develop? Be sure to tune in on ESOCTV and EscapeAoE this weekend to find out!

In addition, be sure to support your favorite players - 50% of all donations received on the day of the event will contribute towards the tournament prize pool!

The Underused Cup will be the first event of the ESOC Grand Tour Season 2. The Grand Tour is a series of live, one-day tournaments that are hosted on weekends throughout the year. Tournaments usually consist of new and different formats, and winning in these tournaments will contribute to one's Grand Tour Record, a tally of points kept to measure players' strength over the course of the season. Click here to read more information about the Grand Tour Season 2.

Season 2 of the Grand Tour will feature five weekend events, and at the conclusion of the 5th event, the top 8 scorers in points will be invited to participate in the Grand Tour Playoffs. The winner is crowned the Grand Tour Champion!

Yeah it's a nice idea for a tourney

Regardless of strength, dutch and japan will be played a lot, cause they're not underused civs.
Strongest civ is probs sioux anyway
Can sirmusket calculate 5x - x??

Yea banning "only" 5 civs will still leave some borderline overused ones in the pool. Could've been better to instead have a civ pool of only 5 very underused civs. Should be fun to play/watch regardless though!

Jap loses to basically every civ but Dutch Porto soiux, just as long as you have a clean and planned out build its not hard to beat jap

^this

Japan isnt really that scary in a one v one scenario, especially land maps. I would be surprised to see them winning in this format very often, especially now that aztec, iro, china, etc. Are going to be played significantly more, all of which are exceptionally good vs japan

I do think jap is relatively versatile in play style and you have a lot of ability to outplay your opponent and win, again though vs someone who scouts properly (and you can really scout what they're doing just by looking at their deck)and reacts accordingly most mus just aren't that easy for jap.

Start time seems oddly late. How will we get through all the matches in so little time?

Also, are there any additional civ rules or can you play the same civ as many times as you want?

@aligator92 here is the link to the rules https://eso-community.net/viewtopic.php?f=704&t=17246

for Bo3 and Bo5, it's smackdown rules (nwc qualifiers rules), so once you win with a civ, you can't play it again, and the winner of the previous game always locks civ first going into the next one

I would also prefer it a bit earlier if possible. Maybe even just 1 Hour
