This Sunday, July 28th beginning at 14:00 GMT...

The Grand Tour Season 2 back in action!
This weekend with the
$100 Tri-Civ Cup!

>> Click here to sign up! <<

Fresh off the back of the New World Championship 2019, ESOC is proud to announce the continuation of competitive AoE3 hype with the 3rd event of the ESOC Grand Tour Season 2, the Tri-Civ Cup! The Tri-Civ Cup will be a tournament hosted on July 28th where players must choose 3 civilizations to represent their skills - and these will be the only civs they can play throughout the entire tournament! In addition, the civilizations will be played in a rotational order, meaning that your Civ 1 pick will be played during the Ro64, your Civ 2 pick will be played during the Ro32, your Civ 3 pick will be played during the Ro16, etc. Players will submit their civilization choices to @Cometk via private message, and on Saturday, July 27th, all civilization choices will be made public. So, like the Mono-Civ tournaments of seasons past, you will have absolute knowledge over what your opponents are bringing to the table.

Before the sign-ups period is over, your civilization choices should be submitted to @Cometk via private message in the following format:

The order of these civilizations is very important. Each civilization will be played on a certain map in a certain round in a rotation format. For example, in the Ro32 your Civ 2 pick will be played on Malaysia. In the Ro16 your Civ 3 pick will be played on Bengal. Thus, it is crucial to consider the map pool (included below) before PMing @Cometk your civilizations. Civilization choices may be changed at any time until the civ choices and bracket are posted on Saturday, July 27th. Once the civ choices and bracket are made public, your civ selection is locked and cannot be changed.

Included below is the Map Pool for the tournament. Players, please consider the maps below before choosing your civilizations.
Thanks, and lets have a great event!

Hmmm...I feel it would be better to let players choose any civs out of their 3, creating more strategic planning opportunities. I mean if you click into an impossible MU you're just screwed, thus incentivizing players to choose civs with no counterpicks (inb4 German mirrors 24/7).

If you get a impossible MU over your pick of desired map set, you fucked up.

That's what I'm saying, now players are incentivized to play the same top civs lol.

Ye agree. The whole point of this rule-set is to restrict players choice but leaving some. Map per map civ pick is ugly per se frankly and also ye very unabalanced in a lot of cases.

Wouldn't they be incentivized to play so in any case? Pre-determined MUs give a window for strategic planning.

Map set seems to be
1. Low hunt tp maps
2. Water
3. Non-tp

Therefore we miss.
4. German map set (2 gold mines, 3 hunts, non-horizontal tp line) 21

Cometk is clearly not part of German conspiracy. One could say he is /Our guy/

I can see Kaiser losing his night sleep thinking whether somali picked India or 1, 2 or 3. And with non-optimal German map pool! Must be a nightmare!

You can take one map on bo3, I'll take the other 2 sipping whiskey, relaxed after exams and after 10h good sleep!

Ye but then just leave it up to the player to chose the civ he wants to? I mean, I would even allow free civ repeat. In the end using the same civ can be an advantage just like a disavantage. And in fact I would leave free pick without any order (in the end it's only 3 civ per player so can easily go blind pick if they keep countering each other).

Well I strongly prefer this concept because you know all the MUs before and can actually create plans days before.

Well I dont think you will know the opponent's civ before the match day anyway. So you are going to prepare against the civ in abstract, which is what you equally do with free pick.

15 minutes going through the MU, map and 30 seconds before the game is actually a huge difference.

i'm really happy to hear you feel this way, and i hope that in actuality it works. this is precisely the reason i prefer these rules too!

no. civs must be submitted to me before sign-ups close, or else you risk not being seeded at all!
