Finally we can have that somppu vs kaiser grudge match!
Fine line to something great is a strange change.

It's pretty expected. Still, it's a shame participation isn't greater.lordraphael wrote:wow. the bracket looks so bad. I guess most players didnt like the setting.

Re: The ESOC Weekend Pilgrimage - Bracket Revealed!
Well thing is it's really not competitive obviously. Which is fine for a weekend tour I guess, but it's also not funny either because so few civs are viable, and the pilgrims spawn in a dumb location. It's just too much tbh, it doesn't make much sense.
As much as I really liked stuff like the 2 tc tourney, I must say I kinda regret signing up for this one.

If you were able to make it so pilgrims didn't spawn in the middle it'd actually be okay
Spawning in the middle means the one who can rush you or put up something like an agra just wins as if you move your pilgrims from the middle you're down so much in resources.

yea a bit surprising to see prize money doubled compared to tri-civ, when the format feels way less competitive

Yeah this format is a bit too wild imo. There was a lot more depth to TTT and despite the balance implications it wasn't like there was one obvious strat and civ right off the bat (there may have been, but it would've taken far more time and exploration than was available to find). Whereas here it seems rather straightforward and not very diverse - the strength of fast colonial age-up options appears too dominant.
Smackdown civ pick rules might make it a bit more interesting past the BO1 stages, but I'm still expecting India + TWC and not much else.

Actually I'm pretty sure tri civ was also $200, but still it's a lot for this yeah

Escape is contributing $100 to this (and the two town tournament) on top of ESOC's $100 contribution. That's why this tournament has a bigger prize pool than the tri-civ cup.

So the ones that escape gets the finals they support it?

Re: The ESOC Weekend Pilgrimage - Bracket Revealed!
I think its pretty hard to design a diverse rule set and then have more than a few civs being viable. The way the game is balanced certain civs are just straight up far better at most things.
2 TC start isn't that big a deal. Not allowing home city shipments or not allowing civs to age past age 2 for example shouldn't limit the pool so greatly. As much as I like 'wild' things, this does go a bit too far and in consequence, it gets 'solved' super quickly. Having said that I'm likely to do something other than India/TWC civs because I'm a trend setter... or something.

Tough i respect the tourney and i am actually positive it can be fun, polls should be considered to test willingless of players/viewers.

Isn't it was @deleted_user2 who cried about Otto being too op for two tc tour and caused the ban. But when India is clearly op for this format, he is silent, I wonder

If nothing else, it makes sense to apply a greater prize pool when players are more receptive to incentive.

Re: The ESOC Weekend Pilgrimage - Bracket Revealed!
I agree. It would have been interesting for a smackdown bo7 between two well prepared players but making a non competitive tournament probably was too much.
