Re: Announcing the $3000 ESOC Winter Championship 2020!
The way I look at it someone whining about a larger prize for 1st of the advanced division is just being entitled. You don't pay anything to join the tournament and let's not forget how large the prize pool is for the size of the game and the amount of competition there actually is. If you want to think you deserve more money go play aoe2 where there's more competition and you make no money as a result .

This event has been in the works for nearly 6 months. I am not sure the timing of EP7 release and this event were purposely linked, just happens to be.

tbh some changes are unnecessary and shitty. like why add xp to native tps when removing non tp maps form tournament map pool is better solution ?

Re: Announcing the $3000 ESOC Winter Championship 2020!
You realize I said "esports standard" not "This is the case for every single esports event" right? There are obviously many examples you can look at where this is not the case, the biggest being Dota, where because they let donations fund the prizepool 5-6th in the 2019 international won more money than 1st place in basically any event that wasnt an international(34 million total prize pool btw). But lets examine the claim for a second. The most recent csgo major the 5-8th place team won 35,000. If you look here are all the tier 2 events. You'll see that at least 80 percent of them have a bigger first place prize than 35,000, and most of the ones that don't are minor qualifiers, which probably shouldn't even be counted. Now lets look at dota. Not including internationals because they are statistical outliers with prize pools 30x any of the other tournaments. In the recent epicenter major 5-6 and 7-8 made 60k and 40k respectively. Again look here and you'll see again the vast majority have the winner making more than 60k and every single tournament but one they make more than 40k. I looked at league as well but its hard to count that when they have tier 2 events that only have academy teams and other tier 2 events where the winning team doesn't even have a liquipedia page, anyway if its standard for the 2 biggest esports, in my book thats enough to say esports standard.Veni_Vidi_Vici_W wrote:- Why present this as a fact when it seems not to be the case? Liquipedia source: when SC2 had code A and code S, 5-8th of code S (tier 1) got more than top of Code a (tier 2). For COD if you compare the tier 1 tournament to tier 2, its the same. (The biggest in tier 1 vs the biggest in tier 2, or the others in tier 1 vs the others in tier 2).gibson wrote: wrote:
Its standard in esports that 5-8th place in a tier 1 tourney makes less than 1st place in a tier 2 tourney. Not sure why everyone is whining about incentivising people who arent top players to play and improve.
- Plus even if most do it this way or that way, doesnt mean it should be done the same here. As I mentioned above, this community could use new builds and strats, and they are more likely to come from pros than from not (yet) pros. Where indeed (extra) money tends to be an incentive.
- The people who aren't top players already get paid, there is the whole advanced division with 1-4 prize money regardless of what is done with 5-8th.
Of course just because bigger esports do something one way doesn't necessarily mean it has to be done the same way here. However, building after a model that has proven to be successful isn't a bad idea. Tabben and lecastete were both captain a little over a year ago, and they grinded the game some and now they're pr35+. Incentivizing lower level players to play the game is how you get new top players, and taking away 25 percent of a 3000$ prize pool to spread money across 12 different other places is both likely to do that and a small price to pay.

That implicates you always have to pay before you can eat there and not a mix of options.Gibson wrote:You realize I said "esports standard"

In fact I have already emphasized that its good to have an incentive for lower ranked divisions as well and I hope to see new little Tabbens yes. What I did say is whether it should be such an amount and I questioned if it should be given to 5-8th spot of advanced.

Im not gonna comment on most points cuz ive ben away so long and dont know where the game is atm. But considering point 1. A long time ago this was already the case and it was horrible. However it was different then with the minor natives beeing super op with native treaty. If u lost the tps age 1 u could just aswell resign. I donno if u have similar concerns now that the normal tps is so important in current meta.? This with point 2 in mind is a bit scary tho i gotta admit. But not as bad that i rather play re. RE is beyond stupid.

Re: Announcing the $3000 ESOC Winter Championship 2020!
I mean its just semantics at this point. You're example isn't relevant because its using standard as a synonym for required. It's standard to pay at Mcdonalds because Mcdonalds requires you to pay, in fact it is not possible to get food without paying. It's clear that I wasn't using standard in this way. When I used standard I used it to mean normal. "Its standard for people to eat meat", "Its standard for men to like women", "Its standard for people to work". Its the standard way to use standard. If I had meant its always the case I would have said its always the case. Anyway if it bothers you so much I amend my statement to be esports standard, rather than standard in esports.Veni_Vidi_Vici_W wrote:> No, you said "its standard in esports", which implicates that this is how its done [everywhere]? The same as you could say "its standard for people to pay at McDonalds before they get their meal".

Some people claimed that past iterations would be worse than the former iterations but EP 7 is the first EP with major balance and design issues.EAGLEMUT wrote:Wait, you mean like with every single past EP iteration before? Yeah I mean, people get upset at every new ep release. And in fact, looking back at the eps, I think it's fair to say the balance has pretty much been constantly improving, so the complaints were often unjustified. So in that regard, we shouldn't be too quick to cry about the next ep.
But I gotta admit that this time, there's really some scary stuff in ep7. And for example, I think there isn't a single top player who supports the nat xp trickle change :/

They didn't want to play in the previous ESOC tourneys and one of the reasons was that they didn't like the EP, too far from the RE. So there's no way they'll play on EP 7.Peshmerga12 wrote:I know Nagayumi and Boneng is a bit active now, can someone ask them if they are intrested to join?
