— PRO BRACKET — ADVANCED BRACKET —
—INTERMEDIATE BRACKET — BEGINNER BRACKET —

Here we have the first-ever AoE3 Power Rankings. What are these rankings you may ask? Well, every single contender in the Pro Division of the tournament was asked to rank each other in order of perceived power. These rankings were then aggregated to create this list, which should serve as an unbiased, definitive strength assessment of each of our top contenders of the tournament.

Players in this list are organized by their Power Ranking, which is a number that can be found to the right of their name. That number is the average of placement on the list that every other player made. So for example Kaiserklein's 1.33 ranking means that he was #1 on most people's list and #2 on some others.

Image⠀- Kaiserklein - 1.33 - Tour Seed #1

It's not a surprise to see the community's premier caster, streamer, and player at the top of this list. With over 75% of those polled rating him the #1 contender, Kaiserklein has acutely been the king of the scene for several years now. The man's AoE3 persona is almost legendary; micromanagement more accurate than a surgeon's hand, knowledge more extensive than the Encyclopedia Britannica, and tears more salty than the Dead Sea itself. The winner of innumerable weekend tournaments, both seasons of the ESOC Grand Tour, the original Time2Micro tournament, the ESOC WarChiefs Classic 2, and a top finisher in every Seasonal Major since 2017, Kaiserklein has an exceptional track record. But the one thing missing from Kaiser's list of tournament achievements is a coveted Seasonal Championship title. In this very list of players contains four previous Championship winners — but not a single one of them takes the moniker Little King. It might be that the first Championship title of the decade becomes a notch under Kaiserklein's belt, as long as he hasn't had too much to smoke.

Image⠀- LordRaphael - 1.71 - Tour Seed #2

A true veteran who has been around since the earliest days of the ESO Community, LordRaphael is also one of the most accomplished tournament players in the history of ESOC. He was the winner of the 2016 ESOC Autumn Championship and the runner-up in no fewer than three major tournaments — the 2015 Winter Championship, the 2017 Spring Championship and the 2019 New World Championship. As if that wasn't good enough, LordRaphael earned the 3rd place in the 2018 Winter Championship, at which point he had a terrifying 89% win record in tournament matches. This German juggernaut has consistently been among top contenders over the years regardless of the changing meta, a fact that can be attributed to his diverse choice of civilizations; LordRaphael is extremely skilled with all of the civs save for the Chinese (which, to be fair, is a favorite among lamers and thus beneath our Lord's majesty). Given his long and near impeccable track record, LordRaphael is certain to become a top pick for bettors to throw their points at as he works his way to claim his second seasonal championship title.

Image⠀- Hazza54321 - 3.52 - Tour Seed #4

A young and friendly British chap, active caster, streamer and ranked third on this list of AoE3 sluggers, Hazza54321 is a fan favorite in the upcoming ESOC Winter Championship 2020. It was only just a few years ago that he was the rising talent, and true to expectations he is one of the few players active today that claims the rank of Major General. Nicknamed “Hazzarov”, he has mastered the art of and is often seen playing the Russian civilisation on stream. His knowledge on other civilisations and mechanics are equally solid, while his micromanagement is on par with other players of his calibre. The winner of Insight New Years Invitational and The General’s Table 2v2 Invitational tournaments, his cupboard is surprisingly empty for a high-level player and seems to be missing a trophy from the Seasonal majors. Perhaps with the start of the new decade, things will go in his favour and earn himself the first Championship title of the decade and his first Seasonal trophy in his cupboard.

Image⠀- Mitoe - 4.59 - Tour Seed #6

“This little piggy went to market (wiggle the big toe), this little piggy went home (wiggle the long toe)
...and this little piggy cried “EZ EZ EZ” (wiggle the Mitoe) all the way home.”

Mitoe is without a doubt a contender to win any tournament he enters. I was going through his tournament history to compile all his podium finishes but grew tired because there were too many of them. Most recently he claims fame as a part of the prestigious eight qualifying players to be flown to Manchester to participate in Age of Empire 3’s largest event in a decade - a LAN at that - the New World Championship. There, Mitoe boasts the only victory versus the eventual NWC LAN winner - diarouga - however, a loss also to diarouga ended his run prematurely post his loss versus eventual bronze medalist Kaiserklein, who need I remind, is the foremost ranked competitor in the upcoming tournament. In short, it was a tough draw for Mitoe. He played admirably.

There is something to be said of Mitoe’s consistency. He is a player with potential to take first, but oft finds himself bested in the semi-finals. He gets winning positions and loses. He sighs alongside us. Let us not forget Mitoe has also practiced a lot with the GOAT - H2O. Methinks he knows his prowess as much as us, but certain tendencies towards certain playstyles can be his Achilles’ heel. Mitoe can deploy really strange, greedy strategies that don’t always work out. They somehow usually work out. That is what makes him so fun to watch and so feared.

Image⠀- iamturk - 5.44 - Tour Seed #5

The Year of the Turk has passed... or has it? Our winner of the 2018 Autumn Second Chance tournament spent last year getting nice and comfortable among top dogs on the ladder. In addition to claiming his rightful place on the ladder, iamturk showed good results in tournaments throughout 2019, reaching the semi-finals in three of the Weekend Tours and more importantly, gaining invaluable experience throwing down with the 800 lb gorillas in our little community. Turk is already recognized for his exhaustive mechanical gameplay and micromanagement skills that earned him the title "iambestmechanics", not to mention his characteristic resilience and patience that wear out his opponents. Now that he is armed with the knowledge and experience of the highest level, will 2020 be iamturk's finest year yet?

Image⠀- KnuschelbĂ€r - 6.44 - Tour Seed #8

As a team game legend, KnuschelbÀr is admittedly out of his comfort zone in 1v1. However, he is no push-over by any measure. In fact, our silent warrior has knocked down some of these knuckleheads seeded higher than him in other tournament settings over the past few months, earning himself the 3rd place in the ESOC WarChiefs Classic II and the Grand Tour Season 2 as a result. He was also the winner of the Weekend Pilgrimage, where his defensive, macro-focused play style truly shined. His choice of civilizations reflects his boomy play style as well, with some of his favorites being the Portuguese, the Dutch and the British civilizations. Many players have learned it the hard way to never allow Knusch to unleash his full macro-management potential and fight a hopeless battle against him in the late game.

Image⠀- snowww - 8.11 - Tour Seed #15

Snowww: legendary team game player, top 8 in the recent LAN, EPL Reigning Champ, Time2Micro Champion, and the holder of the previous Seasonal Championship title, having won 1st place in Autumn 2018. His weakness? Rust. Despite oozing talent, the wunderkind has had more AoE3 hiatuses than a chapter of Hunter x Hunter. Betrayed by his own IRL ambitions, snowww's consistency is often a big "?" as he's not one to put in much practice; often he'll just show up, still perform well because yeah he's that good, take home some prize money and then dip out of the community again. However, this time around snowww will not have a particularly easy bracket, facing up against German compatriot LordRaphael in the Round of 16. But the stoic lad, snowww's cool demeanor makes him one of the few that can withstand the pressure of fellow top players.

Image⠀- Aizamk - 8.41 - Tour Seed #3

Inimitable Aiz, the fan favorite! He does wrong strats right. He makes weird strats work except when he does not and then he loses. Sometimes he 4-1’s diarouga to win the 2017 TWC Classic and sometimes he falls to edurdoscool in the Round of 32. He might produce an impossible unit surround or he might get right-clicked, but always, he amaizes.

Aizamk is reliant upon opponents who are uncomfortable against his particular style. His experience in the unknown is perhaps his greatest strength, second to that, his clicks. He is most at home in control, executing a style that grants him many different continuations and options. No other player refuses the constraint of pre-determined meta military compositions quite like Aiz, who will routinely train obscure and niche units to fit the flux. The elifent is a big beast to take down when it means business, and that is why Aizamk’s peers have ranked him the top eight despite some questionable tournament performances.

Image⠀- Lukas_L99 - 9.19 - Tour Seed #7

A year ago, Lukas_L99 was best known as the second-greatest treaty player with decent, but unexceptional, supremacy skill. He could always be counted on to get a direct seed into the round of 64, pick up an easy win or two against some early opponents, and then fall to one of the players looking for a shot at the finals. But 2019 was a good year for Lukas, who spent half of the Manchester LAN in the practice room with the best players in the world. Rumors floated out of the practice room and into the main hall that Lukas was consistently coming out ahead against many of the NWC's top 8, and with the next major underway, Lukas is keen to show what he's been up to.

Image⠀- PrinceofKabul - 9.21 - Tour Seed #13

It felt like it had been forever since a standout PrinceofKabul showing. Prince, a player with strong all-around stats, is someone who has seemingly had a difficult time translating that statistical prowess into notable tournament victories. Someone who will usually take a few points in a match and then lose anyway, Prince, as a bastion of the high level team-game community and a long-time brigadier, has never really been underrated but somehow under-performs when it comes to making it deep in AoE3 events. After an early knockout in the upper bracket of 2019's New World Championship Qualifiers, it seemed like par for the course for old man Kabuli, but he managed to defy the odds when he scored an impressive 5 consecutive wins in the lower bracket of the tournament to earn himself a ticket to Manchester and place at the NWC LAN Playoffs. Even though at LAN he ate the expected loss to Kaiserklein in the first group stage match, PrinceofKabul gave the eventual winner of the tournament diarouga a run for his money in the second half of the group stage. Prince proved that, just like Hazza's clothes, he is not washed up. Whether its his dedication to fitness or just the jÀgermeister talking, Prince has a vitality that puts him solidly in the top 10 of this list.

Image⠀- The_LastSamurai - 10.41 - Tour Seed #11

Coming in just outside the top 10 is the flamboyant personality that is The_LastSamurai. When he’s not busy driving his Lory, partying at Sam’s house, or trolling twitch chats, he can almost always be found residing somewhere in the top 10 of ESOC’s EP elo rating. A rather old school player who’s recently become active again, he’s taken ladder games off every other active top player. This is only his 2nd ESOC tourney, after losing in the ESOC Spring Championship 2017 RO32 to Mitoe 3-2. Will this British beast prove Garja wrong and show that he is indeed a top player, or will he be shown to be full of hot air? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for certain, The_LastSamurai is not one to be trifled with. Mess with the bull and you’ll get the horns, but if you mess with The_LastSamurai he’ll “%!@? your &#%! you dirty #%!@?ing #%!@?”.

Image⠀- Samwise12 - 11.04 - Tour Seed #14

An AoE3 legend and seasoned veteran of the game, Samwise12 is ranked 12th on the power rankings going into Winter 2020. He has been on and off in the most recent years, but that doesn’t make him less solid at the game – in fact, quite the contrary, he has been doing very well in the last two weeks, hitting top 3 on the active 1v1 EP ladder. Well-known for "the Samwise build", albeit a bit outdated in the current meta, he is one of the masters of the French civilisation. He is equal good at playing other civilisations and utilising his game knowledge like any other veteran players do. While his track record on tournaments has not been that impressive after his victory in ASC Summer 2015, his recent comeback might be a sign of his return to the throne of ESOC champion.

Image⠀- SomppuKunkku - 11.11 - Tour Seed #10

Somppukunkku is the co-founder of Somali Kabuli Gaming, the most prestigious gaming clan in all of esports. As if he needed any more accolades, he is also a really good sepoy lamer. Somppukunkku hasn’t won an ESOC tournament yet, his 3-2 loss to Mitoe in the finals of the 2018 Mono-Civ Cup is the closest he’s come. In that series Somppu out-threw the thrower but surprised many in his first finals appearance. Since, he has found the podium just once in an 0-3 loss to Knuschlebar in the finals of the absurd Weekend Pilgrimage. An honorable mention must include the 2018 New Year’s Classic semi-final which Somppu lost 4-3 to Hazza - dubbed the SKG Civil War. And of course who could forget Somppu vs. Knuschlebar in the final match of the ESOC Premier League (EPL). Somppu won the series 4-3, but just missed the 5-2 result needed to bring SKG home.

Sommppukunkku’s best performances have occurred in atypical formats which demonstrates his great strategic grasp of the game; however, undeveloped mechanics may yet hold him back. Somppu finds real life an important hobby. As such, his playing and fervor have lessened over the years. That attitude grew to a head as Somppu nearly retired in the wake of the EPL and SKG’s heartbreaking loss. It is to all viewers’ benefit he has come back, and to some competitors’ detriment. Although not a favorite to win the event, Somali tactics still commands deep respect as evidenced by his placement within the pro division.

Image⠀- Garja - 12.5 - Tour Seed #G

That's right baby, hail the G. After one user sent me his power rankings list that was simply Garja in every slot from 1 to 24, Garja takes a 12.5 overall ranking and lands smack-dab in the middle of this list. When he's not soaking up attention from the babes at the beaches of Cagliari, Garja can be found cruising his way to Poker millionaire status, blessing his devotees with advice on how to play Aztecs, and milking sweet sweet JP Elo points from noobs on ladder with his lamer-proof Japan builds that would put even Emperor Hirohito to shame. Having made a joint deal with Mitoe to share retirement funds, Garja is taking it easy these days, lounging in a sdraio with a negroni in hand on a well deserved break this winter before he may grace the peons once again with his tournament presence.

Image⠀- SoldieR - 13.74 - Tour Seed #13

SoldieR was competing in Age games when most of the AoE3 community was still learning how to color inside the lines. The grandpa of the scene (by eSports standards) is a regular player in supremacy tournaments, but interestingly, his best result in the ESOC era came from the recent New World Championship. There, he came just shy of a top 8 qualification, losing to diarouga in the upper bracket round of 8 and to Hazza54321 in the corresponding lower bracket match. SoldieR's detractors might argue that his road to the Ro8 was an easy one (how good is umeu, anyway?), but don't discount him - he can and has played with the best. Every time he dusts off his keyboard and graces us with a few matches, he demonstrates himself as a player who could, if he only tried a little more, make a deep tournament run. A look at his ladder history shows a player going hard on the practice sessions, so make sure you're prepared for some Soldier Hype.

Image⠀- India_Bot1999 - 15.888 - Tour Seed #22

Having crowned as one of the top 8 in the Tri-Civ Cup last year, India_Bot1999 aka amiggo1999 is definitely one of the contenders in this Seasonal major. True to his nickname, he lames plays the Indian civilisation at a professional level, and very so often shows his mastery on stream. While he called himself India_Bot, he plays around with other civilisations and performs quite convincing in them as well. When it comes down to tournament, however, he has not been the top dog. Still his best record was in the Tri-Civ Cup last year where he was stopped by Kaiserklein in the semi-finals, but he did beat a lot of very-high-calibre players along the way, so it is definitely something to write home about regardless. Perhaps he will deliver some solid performance and high-quality gameplay again in this year's Winter Championship, and maybe for once he will break the curse and finally wins himself a trophy back home.

Image⠀- OPTIMUS__PRIME - 15.892 - Tour Seed #9

OPTIMUS__PRIME is an elusive guy; if this power rankings list were about player's scheduling skills, then Opti would easily be ranked last. But this list is about AoE3 skill, and his peers rate him in the top 16. OPTIMUS__PRIME is actually an all-arounder and has experience in every gamemode: Treaty 40, Treaty 20, Deathmatch, and Supremacy. With this in mind, it makes sense that Opti has developed a sort of wildcard macro style where his greatest asset is in his ability to leverage late-game know-how against his opponents. Opti falls somewhat short of most tournament's deep stages, but is always a threat and has taken innumerable wins from other good players in tournament games. He's also sitting high at #3 on the ESOC Ladder at the time of this article's writing, and was a crucial part in taking his ESOC Premier League team the Nilla Ninjas to a playoffs title in the most recent EPL. Opti is in greater form than ever before.

Image⠀- KINGofOsmane - 16.5 - Tour Seed #16

The only thing KINGofOsmane values more than his ELO points are his family and his loving pet dog. The founder of the YumiW clan (that's Yumi + Walls), Osmane's signature defensive style with the Japanese has led to much salt and tears from fellow top players. Despite being ranked somewhat low on this list compared to what his ladder statistics might tell you, KINGofOsmane still commands quite a bit of clout in the scene. While most might not respect his style, he's clearly a lethal weapon with it and often takes games from players rated higher than him on this list. While Osmane is not one to be taken lightly, he hasn't been the most active as of late and so may be subject to some old-man relegation and see a quick drop from the Pro Division against Ro16 opponent Kaiserklein.

Image⠀- Lecastete - 16.73 - Tour Seed #18

Lecastete is a new kid on the big boy block in one year this guy goes from major --> colonel such a big, big, sexy boy he also SKG and then now he also in SMAFS one of the sexiest aoe players of all time. PrinceofKabuli: "u r no loger randem major." COMMENCE CLOUT. Lecastete probably won't win any series in the pro division but he'd probably win a sexy aoe player contest and he could very likely win the advanced division this guy did I say went from major to colonel one year? Crazy good talented big boy he is. Fast, accurate clicks and really fast gameplay beats super great toppest players sometimes. He's a big boy ready to go and sexy french.

Image⠀- Jerimuno - 18.07 - Tour Seed #20

The last time we saw Jerimuno, he was in the middle of scrambling his passwords after a steamy Sepoy session with Mr_Bramboy in the WarChiefs Classic II Round of 32 that saw his quick exit from the tournament. Despite some lukewarm performances recently, Jerimuno isn't a stranger to tournament success, having a WoL tournament win under his belt, reached Semi-Finals or better in every ESOC Second Chance tournament, and wins over other high-caliber players dotting his event history. Still, with an expected lost game to "gg" ratio of 1:0, Jeri will have his work cut out for him in the Winter Champs, meeting PrinceofKabul in the Qualifiers and Hazza54321 in the following round, should he survive the Finnish night. Given this schedule though, Jerimuno might even feel relieved, absolved of the responsibility to prove himself as he is expected to lose anyway against such tough opponents. It might be possible that we see some sort of parabolic effect wherein, alleviated of the anxiety to perform, Jerimuno can actually unlock the full potential that we've been waiting to see for years. It might be possible that we see Jerimuno open his 3rd eye and become an aoe3-playing genius the likes of which have not been seen since iamgrunt claimed WCG 2007. But let's not get too ahead of ourselves, because the lower our expectations, the stronger Jeri will show out.

Image⠀- King_Ownage2nd - 19.52 - Tour Seed #19

King_Ownage2nd is largely unknown to the competitive scene on ESOC, but is an RE Patch Quicksearch ladder legend. Not only that, but years back, King_Ownage was considered the #1 treaty player which garnered him many fanboys trying to be just like him. After a long break from AoE3, King_Ownage, while a bit more casual these days, is still a solid player who knows exactly how to lame a few civilizations very well. You'll have to defeat King_Ownage's cherokee rifleman treasure before you can get to the man himself.

Image⠀- SwissPro_OP - 20.0- Tour Seed #21

SwissPro is a largely unknown figure to the ESOC tournament scene, with this being the first event that he's played in. Taking a look at his ladder history, it seems that Swiss is a solid team game regular and has a storied past with other top-level team game players snowww & Veni_Vidi_Vici_W. Being a Nilla veteran it's expected that he'll have some high-caliber handling of the base-game civilizations, but it also seems like he's got plenty experience wielding Japan and India, which makes his repertoire all the more complete. It'll be up to Swiss to bring something to the table for his Qualifiers match, but it's not impossible that we have another heavyweight on our hands.

Image⠀- PĂ©rez - 20.77 - Tour Seed #24

PĂ©rez is an up-and-coming player who doesn't have much in the way of tournament success yet but has been very active in the past few months. Putting himself on the Pro Player Radar over the course of the last year, PĂ©rez has become a staple of the 2v2 team game scene while commanding a stable of obnoxious-to-play-against civilizations. While he has the typical Spanish temper and has considered AoE3 seppuku (uninstall) quite a few times, his recent upset over OPTIMUS__PRIME in the Qualifiers probably has him riding high, and has earned himself a spot in the Pro Division Round of 16.

Image⠀- theonlybaus - 21.08 - Tour Seed #17

theonlybaus is a relative newcomer to the AoE3 tournament scene, with a few minor results across a variety of tournaments. With a tournament seed of 17 but a peer seeding putting him in second-to-last place, it could be said that the rest of the pro division sees his respectable place in the bracket as lucky variance rather than an actual reflection of his skill, soon to be corrected when the tournament begins. Even looking at things more charitably, there's no doubt that theonlybaus is one of the underdogs of the Pro Division. But for all of these things standing against him, he has some advantages - he carries the hope of NA, which means that he can find a practice partner in (or at least share a timezone with) Mitoe if Mitoe decides to play well this time around. He's unevaluated and easy to underestimate by the remaining players, entirely capable of pulling off a surprise win against an unsuspecting opponent. With a good result in Winter 2020, theonlybaus will prove himself a formidable player a worthy tournament regular.

Image⠀- Oliveza - 22.76 - Tour Seed #23

Oliveza, also known as "how?" after the tournament brackets were revealed, rounds out the bottom of the Winter 2020 power rankings list. A lesser-known German player who managed to qualify for the Pro Division after bashing one-too-many Majors on ladder, Oliveza has participated in a few ESOC events without much in the way of notable wins. Despite being the least regarded among his peers, Oliveza has a reasonable ladder history and is friends with fellow German players OPTIMUS__PRIME and Ezad, meaning he has the ability to practice, strategize, and grind games with other high level players to bolster his experience. Even though expectations are low, Pro Division qualification should be regarded as a spotlight opportunity for Oliveza to put some numbers on the board and show people what he's capable of, even if his tournament run may be doomed from the start. There have been several rising stars in the last year, so we can't put it past Oliveza to accomodate a meteoric trajectory like some recent forerunners.
