Winter 2020 Beginner Division Final Games, & Special Showmatch
The Beginner Finals of the
Winter Championship 2020 is finally here!
The Best-of-seven series between Stanley_Winston (@stanleywinston) and Patrick20872 (@Patrick20872) will be played on SUNDAY, 15 March at 0300 GMT on ESOCTV.
P.S.: In other news, the Bronze Match between @Klestree and @Sargsyan will take place TODAY at 1500 GMT, followed by a showmatch between @iamturk and @princeofkabul at 1800 GMT with a special announcement during the games. Make sure to tune in both TODAY and TOMORROW on ESOCTV! The great comeback story did not end with Hazzarov beating Mitoe 5-3 in the Grand Finals of the Pro Division bracket. Indeed, it continues in the Beginner Division bracket with the Best-of-seven match between Stanley_Winston (@stanleywinston) and Patrick20872 (@Patrick20872), both of them being medium-calibre players.
On one side, we have Stanley_Winston, a solid Age of Empires 3 veteran and a familiar face to many from ESOC. Claiming as the domain owner of ESOC five years ago (and that we have been celebrating the wrong date), we are thankful for him and probably should wish him happy birthday on every single day as well.
Being put into the Intermediate Division initially, Stanley_Winston was unfortunately knocked out by hatamoto_samurai in a 2-0 defeat in the first round. But rumour has it that he became stronger and returned with a vengeance in the Beginner Division.
After he was ‘dropped’ into Round of 128, Stanley_Winston began slaying captains and lieutenants left and right. With two 2-0s in a quick succession, XYH and purple_squid were no match to Stanley’s veterancy in the game. SWF_DarkSultan attempted to put up a better fight, but his attempt failed as Stanley_Winston continued with his slaying spree and won 3-1.
At this point, however, Stanley’s unstoppable power began to wane as he met Klestree in the semi-finals. After an initial 2-0, Klestree made a huge mistake as China but Stanley offered a rehost. what a comeback for Klestree that was – rushing Stanley’s Aztecs unexpectedly in Colonial Age and slowly snowballed it into a victory, then defeated Stanley’s Russian rush with his Dutch Defence. Only until the fifth game with 11 minutes of intense struggle, Stanley had his power restored, possibly after praying to Garja, and earned himself the entry to the finals.
Meanwhile, Patrick20872 opened his own slaughterhouse right from the beginning as he was seeded into the qualifier round in the Beginner Division. He opened up with two quick 2-0s to filoual and tomdelonge7, followed by 2-1 to deadrising78 and 3-0 to orgi1234.
Patrick’s path seemed easy until he met his equal match in the semi-finals against Sargsyan. After two hours of breath-taking struggle from both players, and with the last two games taking half of the time, Patrick managed to beat Sargsyan 3-2.
Both players have come a long way to the finals, but only one will be offered the guidance of a high-calibre player. Just like the arena, two men enter and only one leaves – and who will it be?
Remember to tune in on ESOCTV on SUNDAY, 15 March at 0300 GMT to check it out!
