Really cool tourney. I just feel choosing top16 elo at an arbitrary cutoff point is maybe not the best idea? Because theoretically, someone could be top10 for months, then have 3 unlucky games in a row, and be top17, while another guy was top50 for months, has a lucky streak one day and gets top16...

Yeah, but that is the case with any cutoff point for rank, I guess? You can say the same thing about top 32, top 64, etc.

It does mean that there is less opportunity overall, of course. Hopefully once DE becomes more stable for hosting tournaments I'm sure we'll see something like the previous couple of majors with divisions for different skill levels and general competition for all

Glad we will soon be underway!

Would like to echo the previous comments in that I am hoping for an open bracket event soon. It helps generate interest amongst the up and commers that still have a gap to bridge to the top. All 5 DE events so far have been pretty restricted.

Well a sub 1700 tourny wouldn't really work as there is no way to track which players have been at 1650 for months or players at a 1750+ elo ranking losing 3 or 4 games in a row (maybe not even intentionally) and thus qualifying for this tournament. At the moment i dont see how this idea is feasible.
Reminds me of when Lord Rapheal lost his opening round in the Pro winter 2020 and thus dropped down into the advanced tier and then proceeded to sweep all his challengers aside

Yeah, I think aoe2 has sth like current rating+highest rating achieved or so, but obviously that creates more work and might not be perfect either.

DE doesn't have any way of seeing max rank at the moment unfortunately. Maybe once the online leaderboard on ageofempires.com has been setup for AoE3.

Don't worry, there will be an open tournament not long after this one ends.

Well, this is the current top 8:
1. kaiser - 2116
2. samwise - 2115
3. hazza - 2067
4. opti - 1997
5. ezad - 1986
6. Lecastete - 1986
7. knusch - 1975
8. mitoe - 1945

Group A has kaiser mitoe, group B has samwise knusch, group C has lecastete hazza, and group D has ezad opti. I think this will change though.
