Sad moment to realize that I can't watch this live.

Very good news!!! African civs! But also USA...
I'm liking everything but I just wish aoe4 would come out later. By the time the african DLC comes out, aoe4 is knocking on the door, taking 80% of the playerbase with it.

Well that's good seeing how trash DE is, might as well move on to aoe4 asap

We got English Mongols Chinese and Indias as civ. I'm excited! Looks decent and fun. Fall 2021 release can't come soon enough. As for aoe3 DE, lets have another KOTH tournament and squeeze out whatever time we got out of that shitty game lol

I like the fact that it is not "India", but specifically the Delhi Sultanate. At the same time I wonder why they did not do that with China as well (e.g. Ming).Cocaine wrote:We got English Mongols Chinese and Indias as civ. I'm excited! Looks decent and fun. So we get 4 civs. Classic 2021 game. Release with 4 civs and then add 50 civs as dlcs. When they do that I hope they keep cross expansion play like civ 6. Meaning if you own a particular dlc civ then only you can play it but you can play against the one owning that civ regardless of whether they own it or not

The animation did not seem very fluid to me.
I hope it was Youtube's compression, but the terrain textures - which appeared so sharp before - looked kind of blurry in that preview.
@princeofcarthage Yeah, Company of Heroes 2 (Relic) allowed that. It's very likely you can play against civs you haven't unlocked in AoE4.

"According to the team behind the game, there will be eight civilizations in the initial release"princeofcarthage wrote:So we get 4 civs. Classic 2021 game. It's eight actually!
Besides, seeing how diverse the gaming market is, a statement like "classic 2021 game" is kinda a bold generalisation imo.

8 is fine then. But reading the OP i thought it was only 4. Found it a little weird tbh.

Eight is too much for perfect balance IMO.

Anyone else hyped to see Aoe3 pros potentially facing off against aoe2 pros in a game that is new for both? I would really love to see if aoe3 pros can hold off their own against aoe2 pros, although they will at least have the disadvantage of not being full-time players

Prolly aoe2 pro will win the game ,aoe4 is so much aoe2 like.
Re: Age of Empires: Fan Preview Trailer for April 10th
True. Still, could be fun. Aoe3 pros have a lot of RTS talent. And I think talent can't be underrated. Look at Jordan who didnt play aoe2 for years, then came back and is now top10 again, after "only" playing fulltime for like a year. While others were playing 40 years straight and never got close to that level.

Re: Age of Empires: Fan Preview Trailer for April 10th
The combination of what seems to be aoe2ish gameplay with more unique civs excites me. I think gameplay wise it looks promising, Im excited to see what its like.
In terms of graphics, I think it looked pretty but the quality of animations seemed a bit clunky. But its hard to tell without actually playing the game myself and getting a feel for it.
Also it was very ironic that I got an ad for the fake aoe2 mobile game while watching this show.

Are the alpha testers allowed to say anything to reassure me?

Re: Age of Empires: Fan Preview Trailer for April 10th
Not being full-time players is what will make the difference. Factors that make one good at a game, in order of importance:Astaroth wrote:Anyone else hyped to see Aoe3 pros potentially facing off against aoe2 pros in a game that is new for both? 1. Time commitment
2. Talent
[Large gap]
3. Experience with similar games
4. Age
etc
The best players in AoE4 will be those that have high amounts of free time to spend on it, and those who can play it for a living. Read: Kids in high school who have no responsibilities and professional streamers. Neither category is represented in AoE3's top players. We're an old community, and the game is too small for top players to make a living playing it. And I would hope that quitting higher education or full-time jobs in favor of becoming a pro AoE4 streamer is a risk no one will take.
So even if (and that's a big if) our top players are as talented as TheViper, the reality is that it won't be close.

Re: Age of Empires: Fan Preview Trailer for April 10th
It seems like they are playing it safe and making it really similar to AOE2, I was hoping for more of a hybrid and taking it further.
I am hoping for things like local guilds and tribes to ally with.
and even a trade line (although I see market trading units will be in the game)
very little use of hero type units (other than mongols) and units that give buffs and such.
there may be unit abilities like charge and other defensive modes that are cool (spear men that kneel and put spear in ground with oncoming cavalry)
I get the would scrub the deck mechanics and that's fine.
I would like to see accuracy in archer fire,
cavalry that moves while it attacks so can stay with running units
mercenary units
build able roads and bridges
