Grand Tour Events: Postponed

Post by n0el »

Image Due to the lack of a HOTfix to address the hitbox and other issues with the recent patch, the ESOC team is forced to postpone the next two Grand Tour season three events by an additional two weeks. We are confident that the issues will be addressed by that time and that any future postponements won't be necessary. The sign-ups for Empire Wars have been adjusted accordingly and the sign-ups for Two Towns will be opened shortly. Thank you all for your patience.

Can't EP support DE? or rather can't we have EP for DE?
Fine line to something great is a strange change.

No need to be feisty. I wasn't asking why EP team didn't make EP for DE. I was asking whether it was possible to have or not

No need to be feisty. I wasn't asking why EP team didn't make EP for DE. I was asking whether it was possible to have or not
I mean, it would be possible to have a modded DE. I think it would introduce more problems than it would solve though and would not be a realistic amount of work to take on. Every time a new official patch came out you would have to re-apply changes against the new version. Problems like the hitbox aren't something that would be easy to fix in a mod and would require serious reverse engineering of the engine. Trying to fix that with volunteer developers would certainly take longer than waiting for the official devs to fix it. On the balance side, deciding on changes was hard enough with a stable official patch. Adding constant official patches would make it even harder, as there would be debates about whether each official change should be incorporated.

I also don't think a "DE EP" is anywhere near necessary, and would be incredibly bad for the game right now. If you recall the state of the game pre-EP, it was orders of magnitude worse than DE. There were maybe two playable maps, rampant cheating, and civs that needed to be outright banned from tournaments. We now have tons of maps, some of the best balance the game has ever had (even with many new fun civs) no cheaters, and less than 5 minute quick search queue times for most players.

I am honestly not so sure that postponing tournaments due to these bugs was absolutely necessary either - the TC hitbox is annoying, but still quite playable imo. The flare window can be disabled with a quick config file change that is floating around. Postponing is realistic only because we have active official support and can expect a hotfix or new patch within a relatively short timeframe.

There was a hotfix right? Any news, when will the next event take place?
Though attack move is worse in this new patch, and pathing too I'm afraid, but oh well

Okay thanks
This was moved by one day to be on Saturday the 16th. I didn't realize that Sunday was Easter, which may be a conflict for some players.
