will the schedule for this interfere with with the aoe4 weekly's?
Dont know but the answer is probably. There are always cross overs in tourneys between aoe4 and aoe2. Otherwise there will be no time for a tourny as there is always aoe4 action going on
ye makes perfect sense, too bad then I can't participate. will be following the tourney tho

8-)

The 11th of July will be the New World Championship's 3rd anniversary, what a wonderful announcement to coincide with that. Even if it is a few weeks early

there are other civilizations to play in the tournament and you have to buy the dlc to participate even if you won't play those civilizations in the tournament.
To my understanding, playing the new KotM civilizations and maps (to some extent) will be required by rules of the tournament, that's why all participants need the DLC.
Leaving out my personal comment when will the event start? Is there a date or a month?
Says July in the post, no specific date yet.
Thanks for the clarifications.

Fantastic to see how AOE 3 has bounced back. Just goes to show what happens when a dedicated community keeps something alive :)
So many other RTS games from the noughties just haven't stuck around the same, with the halls of many forums slowly emptying...

Feels like AOE may be hitting a bit of a golden age, and I'm 100% here for it.

Whoa, I didn't see this. Microsoft finally recognising that an AOE3 community exists. A bit late, but the gesture counts.
It would have had a bigger impact if this happened in 2015, but maybe this can get some of the old pros out of hibernation.
Now this is what I'm talking about, that's how you get hype about this game.
Spread the word, let's get this rollin, let's get some big names in the ring.

You know what, even if this comes extremely late, it's not too late to still make a splash with AOE3. Even if it's the last big thing that's gonna happen for it, this game deserved to be put on the map in the public's eyes.
It's still an obscure game from the AOE series for the big audience, but if such events produce some quality content, maybe this will change something.
Looking forward to seeing who's going to sign up for it.

I have not been keeping up to date so this might be an old joke but Hungarian Plains need to be renamed to Hungry Plains

Bit concerned about the maps; Anatolia is a 6 TP ATP map; Courland/Pripet Marshes is basically the same map. England starts off with a level 3 Trainline/steamboat Trade post lines (and has natural coal mines and a huge bountiful sea); Vistula basin and saxony feel like the same map; Spain starts off with a dock wagon and defensive TP lines. Potential huge inbalnces of first TP passes in Dniepier basion, saxony and vistula basin. Havent actually managed to roll portugal yet!

I assume the nats will be balanced by the tournament and wont be a must lame every game (especially with new TP mechanic) but i am not hopefull.

Side note: Has the Inca nat rush meta begun yet?

I hope they will make some twist to the map pool at least for the final phases.

It's just... gameplay changes seem to cater more to casual than competitive and there's a lot of them, so the tournament announcement feels dissonant to old players accustomed to old balance.

Without initial support and continued support through gameplay changes [impractical] it's hard to ask much of the competitive scene players. Obviously someone advocated for our scene after it got fucked by being ignored and that's great I appreciate that and something is better than nothing and it's very cool but I've been around for awhile and I'm a salty person sometimes.

Nili? Forgive my lack of knowledge on the matter but why would an AOE2 player ever care for AOE3?

because you would assume that the employee would be objective in his decision making instead of biased .... microsoft correct in trying to eliminate the conflict of interest

Same game is being cast live on fitz's twitch, and off a rec on ESOC's.

The difference is staggering.

Let's shoot for 1 second per second. It's what aoe3 deserves.

Is there a clear bug report on the official bugs forum, ideally with a sample file, system specs, and video showing the slow playback?

I agree that it would be great to fix but the developers are unlikely to work on something that's not officially reported, or that's only reported anecdotally. If you could link the bug report here and we can give it a bunch of upvotes maybe they will actually work on it.
