The goal of the EP is to improve the multiplayer gameplay of AoE3. We do this by implementing anti-cheat protection, improving map balance and improving civilisation balance. And, of course, by bringing the community together via ESOC itself After all, multiplayer is no good without other people to play with.
We've seen this community continue to thrive throughout the year and its not looking like it has any plans of stopping. The Winter tournament is coming and since its going to be played on this patch, its going to be an interesting one. No matter how small the changes, and they are indeed small, the balance is different and were all here to see that little metagame change come to fruition when the best players face off. The community thinks Otto and Port will be the civs of choice. Well see if youre right, it certainly would be something to see Ports dominate ')
The EP is an ongoing project. The patch launcher auto-updates as we change things so an update does not require any actions from the user, and we will continue to release updates, but rest assured there will be no balance changes until after the Winter event. A new public board has been opened specifically for discussion about the ESOC Patch, discussion about balance and potential future changes is welcome there! We will follow the discussion closely and will try to make changes that the community likes as well as balance the game.
As Im sure youre all aware, this project never could have happened without a motivated team of volunteers spending their free time discussing, implementing and testing the changes. Massive thanks to the entire team!
