@spanky4ever 6/8 france players are playing in the lower bracket, which will not be streamed. there are only 2 players using france in the main bracket ro32, and both have seeds on the lower end of the spectrum, or otherwise are unlikely to make it super deep in the tournament ^^ you won't be seeing much france, but some brazilians might say otherwise

more importantly - every single top 10 player is playing a different civilization. no repeat civs among the top 10!

This is pretty cool actually. Rare to see this much diversity in any competitive game.

But EP is a piece of imbalanced garbage so I guess it’s a lucky coincidence :hmm:

Not looking properly at your stats results in bad predictions, at least I got 2 out of 3

Same as last mono civ cup. That's incredible. Wonder how much if it's due to good balance or just because personal preference.

You shouldn't preseed tourney players because clearly 7-8th tourney placers tend to be weaker than 1st-2nd Elo placers.
Tourney preseed makes sense for top4 max and even in that case there might be an outlier.
With that said, top32 players are always going to be reasonably matched anyway. Even if a top4 goes out at ro16 agaist a top8 that's not too much of an upset.

Yea, top3 elo is definitely better than top 8 tourney.
Here the issue is that I'm facing iamturk, then Tit and then erik. I was #2 elo when they made the bracket, and it feels like I'm facing top 10 players from the start.

Also it is the way seeds are placed in the brackets. It should be top-down then bottom-up then bottom down again, etc.
Basically 1st with last, 2nd with 2nd last, etc. Mid seeded players should be facing each other. Can also anticipate a shuffle method but not more than +- 3 seeds imo.

Well tbh the seeding has always been fucked up. They just keep doing the same bad method instead of innovating imo

Really? I thought it was only elo last tourney.

Anyway, it's a bad method for sure.

Tournament results don't really show the skill level. The 2 guys who reach the finals have to be good, because they had to beat strong opponents, but you can go very far without being good (I got to the RO8 in the first ESOC tourney, while I was pr30ish back then, just because somppu managed to upset musketJR), or you can't get kicked early while you're top4. If two top 4 players face in RO16, one of them will have to go, and that doesn't mean that he wouldn't deserve to go to the finals.
Furthermore, you can underperform in a serie, and you can't judge someone's skill on a BO5/7.
Finally, the players who didn't play in the previous tourney obviously can't be top8, which means that a good player can't be higher than #9.

Elo however takes into account all the games the player has played, which is a lot more accurate as it gets rid of all these issues.
It has other issues of course (noob bashing, free wins, bad streak etc), but it's still better than tourney results.

I'm not sure if the EP elo is more accurate than the RE elo though. It is for active players, but people who come back have to start at 1600 and play a lot of games, which sucks.
