Re: Knuschelbär vs tabben
Just gonna put it out there, these casted tourneys are nothing but jokes unless you can provide close to lag-free conditions.
After game2 me and knusch lag-tested without casters and it was definitely fine. Compare that to the game on klondike where you couldn't move stuff in the big fight and had to afk ur shit and hope for the best (very competitive right?).
There's so much effort being spent on discussing map/patch balance, making up funky tourney rules, talking about how bad the seeding system is and bla bla bla (i could make the list much longer) - but there's close to nothing being done when it comes to minimizing lag in tourney games.
I raised the issue during summer (with literally no response) and before the current tourney started but looks like those who decide on these things prefer having laggy games since nothing was done. Even a top16 player sitting out of the tourney (due to the frequent lag issues) wasn't enough for any effort to be made.
Game 3 and 4 was casted from recordings and viewers seemed to be totally fine with this experience, why not just make it standard?

as if aoe 3 would be competitive, or built for such an enviroment but I see your point. I've had my plenty share of laggy tournament games and it's painful everytime.

Does the UI work properly with casted games? If not, is it something that can be easily fixed?
Also, I bet the donations would be smaller during the recorded games. And the risk factor of spoilers is always present.

It should have a bot as a 3rd player. Also there's the rehost issue. And to be honest live is much more fun than recorded

Re: Knuschelbär vs tabben
New proposal: people that complain about lag can play with no casters but then they don't get prize money.

Yea, I don't know why they still impose casters, it's impossible to play in such conditions.
Couldn't you make a UI to cast from recorded games so that it's still enjoyable to watch?

Recorded game casting sucks on AOE3, it always has and always will.

Maybe you could make a UI for it then.
Anyway, rec casting is better than having unacceptably laggy games.
Re: Knuschelbär vs tabben
The UI works for it. The problem is the replay system itself. It plays solely based on the speed of your PC. @[Armag] diarouga
I would love nothing more than for this to work, but sadly its AOE3 and you can't have nice things.

Re: Knuschelbär vs tabben
Yeah, the speed is the main problem. The recorded game will never play at 100% speed. Best you can seem to get is 90%. Super boring.
Plus the lack of suspense and everything else--it's just a bad experience.
There's no good solution to the problem really. Lag is subjective, it depends on the players' connections, the locations of the players, their hardware, etc. How do you decide which games you can cast and which you can't? Not to mention I feel like many players just complain about lag for the sake of complaining because they're losing. And I personally feel like viewership and interest would go down a lot if you decide to have to cast every single match from recorded games.

Re: Knuschelbär vs tabben
It's also always the same player that complain about lag.
Tabben is at it 3rd lag drama in less than a year.

Re: Knuschelbär vs tabben
All I can say is since casting became a thing, I think with the PK clan tournament, Ive never played a lagfree tournament game. I guess we have to do it for the fans and suck it up. Like, there is casting lag and theres real lag. Casting lag is playable for most part but yes, in fights it gets a bit too much.
Re: Knuschelbär vs tabben
Casters should be required to run some sort of speed test to the country of the players and if its not reasonable for aoe(150 maybe)? They shouldn't be allowed to cast. Also they should have to meet some sort of hardware requirement as well. Too many people who are known to lag are allowed to cast. This will mean less games can get casted live, but thats better than forcing people to play in terrible conditions.
