Error message when starting the vanilla game

Hey guys
i have a problem with aoe3 vanilla game. A friend of mine just bought aoe3 vanilla version and we want to play together. I have the complete collection with both dlcs. When i start the dlcs, they work fine. But if i want to start the vanilla game to play multiplayer with my friend, because as i told you before he doesnt own the dlcs, there shows up a message saying age of empires 3 doesnt work anymore. I tried to run as admin, changed the compability to vista, xp etc. and patched the game to 1.14, but nothing worked. Maybe some of you guys know a solution for my problem
