Aha, sounds like you misinterpreted the meaning of this error. Error 100 doesn't mean that the key's been used; it means that the key is bad and cannot be used for multiplayer. This unfortunately happened because Steam ran out of valid keys during the sale. Microsoft is working on a solution.
