Age of empires 3 has stopped working

Hey guys,

So I've been playing AOE3 on my PC for over a year now and haven't had any issues until the most recent few months. It's becoming a more frequent problem and it happened a few times in a row today while in game. My game will simply crash and say "Age of empires 3 has stopped working"


I went and found the details of the crash in my windows log and copied them below:

Has anyone run into this issue? It seems so random.

Hey, it looks like you're launching the old vanilla version of the game, which isn't very compatible with newer systems and of course misses much of the game's content. Make sure you are launching The Asian Dynasties to play.

I know how to log onto Asian Dynasties. I play it every once in a while; however, I prefer vanilla. Is there not solution on the vanilla side? I was reading some other psots online that pointed to Steam as causing the issue. Any thoughts?

Well, I guess you can judge best for yourself whether you have the same issue on The Asian Dynasties or not. Unfortunately, Vanilla doesn't even launch at all for many players on newer systems, so that's what immediately came on my mind as the cause of your issue. I don't know about a solution, perhaps you could try doing a reinstall.
