I assume that you need some Registryfiles changed (not sure) and I bet a reinstall would be 10times faster.

The problem is that the installation path is no longer correct.

You open the Registry Editor and go following way (this is for 64bit systems):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Software Wow6432Node Microsoft Microsoft Games Age of Empires 3 1.0

In this table you'll find the following entry: "SetupPath" which says in a normal installation as follows:

C: Program Files (x86) Age of Empires III bin

The entry you change so where the Age of Empires 3 folder is currently located.

Problem solved

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\microsoft games\age of empires 3 expansion pack 2\1.0

Windows, not even once.

I do not have Microsoft games after HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Software Wow6432Node Microsoft
What do I do now?

I'm having this problem but "Microsoft Games" is not showing up in my registry after "Microsoft" (I'm using Windows 8) please help :(

Ugh same problem. I bought this game on steam a while back for a lap top. now I have a new computer and am trying to get the game going again. I get to a screen that asks if age 3 is allowed to make changes to my computer, I select OK, then it asks me the same for the warchiefs, but I get the message "unable to load DataP.bar" and that is as far as I can go.

I did open the Asian dynasties from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age Of Empires 3\bin" the product key on steam would not work, I happen to have my old key for Asian dynasties which did work, but then I went to the online multiplayer part and got more failed messages.

Try updating your pc that worked for me. The windows updates!

this is a new computer with freshly loaded win 10... how do I get more updates?

I am not seeing the same options he is. I am not computer savvy and he is peaking Spanish.

when in documents> my game> aoe3

I see this list with folders most are empty

Do a system restore on your pc and then reinstall all the windows updates along with all your stuff. That's what it took for me =/

What worked for me is a system restore and then reinstallation of microsoft updates. It's annoying but you do what you must for the most OP game on earth.

If you are not seeing registry entry
A) You could be looking at wrong entry
B) Reinstall aoe 3
