I was taking a drink, watching TV and watching the stream on my smartphone. I realized, before the india / brit game, that tit was going to lose. He would probably have won the next one, but then he would have to pick first in last game, he didn’t have any good civ yet, and snoww was going to pick in second, with brit or german. It was 95% over. So i offered him to play the last one knowing he had no chance, and it was easy enough for me to win on florida.

I didn t really think about the consequences, especially for others.
Personally, even if going to the LAN is attractive, it's complicated for me to go away 6 days for personal reasons. So i wasn’t really worried about my tourney result or something.

He agreed that I play on his account, share his password, and at the end of his game on pampas, i logged in and played.

It was completely stupid…

It wasn t planned at all. It was a private joke that stems from the fact that I wanted to train him at port water, but he said he wouldn t need it.

Sounds like this whole thing just wasn't thought through at all by these two. They screwed up and that part is over with. I do think there should be a playoff for the final 2 spots. But as some mentioned, time might be the issue here.

I think Tabben deserves his spot, and i hope he does well. The lack of remorse or care from Kynesie just confirms what kind of person he is imo.

I agree with your first sentence. However, I don't think that you're reading between the lines of what Kynesie posted. Or maybe I'm just reading between them what I what to read. In any case, English is not his first language so what he's trying to convey may be different from what he wrote. I believe someone earlier ITT referred to this as well. But yeah, he did say this:

Imagine being in that situation and considering cheating in game 7. If the thought "but what about snowww?" doesn't go through your head, that does show a lack of "care" as Sam put it. I would call it low empathy. Whether it's "better" than considering snowww's perspective and going through with it regardless, who knows, either way it's not pretty but it does explain the behavior and shows that it wasn't malice, just plain good old human selfishness.

I'm rooting for tabben. People aren't giving him enough credit

Who are you talking to here? Because if you thought she was on my account, then you'd be asking her that question :hmm: And that would mean you're asking her why she is using her own account so the question doesn't make sense. But if you didn't think she was using my account, the question makes even less sense

To be fair, he was exhibiting empathy. His friend was in a tough situation and he knew that he could take care of it. Not thinking about other people ("them") is common when trying to protect the interests of those you care for ("us"). I like the point you bring up - human selfishness. That's precisely what all of our decisions are anyway, right? ;)

Yeah true. I hope to one day live in an ESOC where people don't consider fellow community members and AoE3 fans "them".

What is a forum if not a place for people to converse?

Credit for what? Subjectively, I've played enough vs tabben to know he's a good player, maybe top 8. That's out of tourney games though.

Objectively, tabben didn't qualify. Nothing to add tbh. In my eyes he'd deserve to go to the lan if he beat wicked and soldier in some playoffs. Maybe that's not practical for escape because they need to book tickets, that's fair enough. But we can't ask people to give credit to tabben then, his qualification isn't legit. And that's regardless of how well or how poorly he'll perform at lan.

We can just all blame tit and kynesie for fucking up the tournament.

Imo he was easily a top 8 player this tournament, out of the people who signed up and didn't get DQ'd. That's what I mean by people not giving him enough credit. When you say it's undeserved, you imply that he's not a top 8 player. I think he was here.

I mean, he lost to risi in the main bracket. And then he lost to kynesie, who was already at the bottom of top 8 I think (I kind of bashed him in my qualification series).
I think tabben is maybe top 8 in casual games, but he usually performs poorly in tournaments. You say he was "easily" top 8 in this tourney, that implies that he'd easily beat soldier and wicked for example? We'll never know I guess. He didn't beat Lukas "easily" either.
