Kaiserklein wrote:I think people arguing that the winner picks first + can't use his civ again doesn't favour the weaker player just don't have aoe3 tourney experience. So much talk about stats and maths, and so little consideration for actual tourney stuff.
It's much harder to clean sweep someone, even if he's lower and "deserves" to get swept, when he keeps counterpicking you on several kinds of maps, with any civ of his choice, while your own civ pool gets smaller. Or even to beat him, say, 4-1. And believe what you want, but as the underdog, being able to win 1 or 2 games thanks to that makes a comeback much more likely
yes this is a thing people don't seem to understand. These rules can easily turn a series that should be 4-2 into a series thats tied 3-3 going into the last game and you never know what might happen in 1 game. It gives the better player a much smaller margin for error.

The viewer entertainment is important for sure, but you also have to respect the players. And this rule is a bit unfair for the better player.

absolutely, so it depends what the priority is for the tournament, entertainment or having the best balance.

It is not unfair but it is not very well tought because of the civilazation restriction.

Yeah the civilization restriction is really the operative thing here though. Even in alternating pick, if you win a bunch of games in a row, you're going to lose access to probably some of your best civs. That's really the rule that punishes you for winning IMO and starts creating imbalance between what each person can bring into the next game. I wonder if a slight adjustment could be made to the rules by which players only lose access to a civ if they win with it on their own counterpick. That way in say, a BO7, if you win games 1, 2, and 3 with your top 3 civs, you'd still be able to pick the civs you used in games 2 and 3 given those were on the other person's counterpick. That way, when it finally becomes your turn to have 3 counterpicks in a row (because the series is over if you won game 4, and the only way the series continues is if the other person keeps winning, making it your counterpick the rest of the match) you can approach those matches with your best options, making your counterpicks no less strong than the ones earlier in the match.

You apologize for something that you didnt do intentionally, or that you were later made to realize was wrong, while you didnt think it was before. They definitely did it intentionally while knowing it was wrong. An apology would just be show.

You definitely can't say it like that, because people can change from one moment to another.

you id*ot.
1. Why did you drink alcohol? It harms your body & soul. (well it seems like not your aoe skills )
2. after "it was completely stupid..." you needed to say what many cant read between the lines: "it was completely stupid AND im sorry about the whole case and this will for sure never ever happen again in future." or something like that.
3. Please start streaming or so, I wanna see more of your games.
