Tournament Rules

Civilization Restrictions

For the 1st game in a series, players will agree on a civilization matchup. After that, players alternate in locking their civilization first, with the winner of Game 1 locking his civilization first in Game 2.

You must play X different civilizations, then you can play any civilization one more time:

In a Best-of-3, you must play 2 different civilizations, then you can play any civilization one more time.
In a Best-of-5, you must play 3 different civilizations, then you can play any civilization one more time.
In a Best-of-7, you must play 4 different civilizations, then you can play any civilization one more time.

The exception to this rule is when playing China or France - players are allowed to select China or France only once per series, after which both civilizations may not be played again, even after the civilization reset.

Additionally, researching the Chinese "Training Forms" technology from the monastery will result in an automatic game loss.
Example (Best-of-5)

Gameplay Rules

1.1 - All games must be played on the Official Patch (aka RE Patch).

1.2 - Every game must be recorded.

1.3 - All games must be played with the Game Rules set to "20 min. Treaty".

1.4 - Ships and docks are NOT allowed.

1.5 - Every game must be conducted within half map. This means that before the treaty timer has expired, you may not gather resources or construct buildings past your half of the map. Military units must be on your side of the map when the timer expires. Half map does NOT apply to treasure-collecting and scouting.

1.6 - In the case of disputes, half map boundaries will be arbitrated by the caster(s) in live games and tournament admins in recorded games.

1.7 - Trading Posts / Native Posts may NOT be constructed before the Treaty timer has expired UNLESS both players are able to reach one. Confirm with your opponent that he is also able to reach one within his Town Center radius before constructing trading posts.

1.8 - Researching the Chinese "Training Forms" technology from the monastery will result in an automatic game loss.

1.9 - Winners must submit recorded games using the Match Results Submitter found here.

1.10 - Every player must respect their opponent, casters and organizers. Misbehavior will result in a warning and can lead to disqualification. Racism and/or insults will not be tolerated.

1.11 - When a player disconnects from the internet BEFORE 2 minutes, the player can (when both agree) restart and replay the game. When the opponent does not agree to restart, the outcome of the game will be determined by the tournament administration.

1.12 - When a player disconnects AFTER 2 minutes, the players can (when both agree) restart and replay the game. When the opponent does not agree to restart, the player who lost connection will be given a loss.

1.13 - Every player may restart a game BEFORE the 2 minute mark when necessary. This is allowed ONCE per map when the game is NOT casted by an official caster. Restarts for CASTED games will be determined by the caster.

1.14 - The caster is allowed to restart a game as many times as necessary for optimal play.

1.15 - Recorded games must be submitted with match results. Failure to do so may result in a match being considered invalid.

1.16 - Players must be respectful to each other when selecting civilizations during the first game in a series. Players cannot intentionally change to unfair match-ups, or otherwise be difficult to agree with. The tournament administration reserves the right to two possible outcomes. 1) If only one player is deemed challenging, then that player will be forced to pick their civilization first. 2) If both players are disagreeable, then a blind pick will be enforced.

Map Pool and Map Vetoes

The tournament map pool consists of 5 maps total. There will be no map vetoes. The map pool for each round is as follows:

During the Finals, the higher seed player will select a map from the pool of 5 to be played in Game 1, "x". The lower seed player will then select a map to be played in Game 2, "y".

Scheduling Rules

2.1 - Please read the ESOC Guide to Scheduling!

2.2 - Players must respond with the times they are available to play in their dedicated scheduling thread. Players will then play out their games on the given maps.

2.3 - Posts in scheduling topics will be considered along with interaction with admins when making decisions regarding scheduling. Other communications will not be considered.

Casting Rules

3.1 - It is every players responsibility to work with tournament administration for the casting of games.

3.2 - If a player is more than 15 minutes late to a casted match, the defaulted player will be forced to lock his civilization first in Game 1.

3.3 - Players cannot deny casters without consulting with the tournament admins first.

3.4 - Only casters that have been authorized by the tournament admins will be permitted to stream matches on ESOCTV or on personal channels.

3.5 - The players in casted matches will be required to schedule their matches with their opponents and with the authorized caster(s).

3.6 - All streamed games must have a time delay of 2 minutes. This includes games streamed by players themselves.

3.7 - The tournament administration reserves the right to extend the deadline of a match if deemed appropriate.

3.8 - All tournament-streamed matches must be recorded.

3.9 - No additional observers may be present in games.

3.10 - If issues preventing players from playing on ESO occur, players and casters will meet on GameRanger to play the series out.

3.11 - Players and caster(s) may request during a match that measures be taken to reduce lag. At the discretion of the tournament admins, or casters if no admins are available, a streamed match may have its casters switched out, have its number of casters reduced, or be casted from replays.

Disqualification Rules

4.1 - All external exploits and game modification software are forbidden. The tournament administration reserves the right to disqualify a player for use of any exploits to gain an unfair advantage.

4.2 - Exploits include but are not limited to: Map Hacks, Trainers, Chinese Monk Aura Glitch (see rule 1.8), Explorer Revival Glitch, Explorer ROF Glitch, OOS / Intentional Lag (Stacked downloads or other game crashing exploits), mods (building rotator, zoom modification), and UIs (Ekanta, Transparent UI).

4.3 - Acceptable hotkey modifications should follow the "1 input = 1 output" rule. This means that the hotkey does not queue multiple actions that would normally require several keys. An example of an acceptable hotkey modification are hotkeys for the Agra Fort.

4.4 - If you suspect your opponent has violated any of the player integrity rules, finish the game and submit it for review with an explanation of why you think the game was unfair. If the tournament administration find someone to be guilty of cheating, the cheater will be disqualified from the tournament.

4.5 - The tournament administration has the right to disqualify a player in cases where there is severe lag to the point where the playing and/or viewing experience is unusually burdened.

4.6 - One-Touch Forfeiture: Once a player has expressed that he has forfeited the match, he will be disqualified from the tournament and not permitted to continue playing. Having an insufficient reason for forfeiting may result in a tournament ban.

4.7 - "Smurfing", playing for another user, or having another user play your match for you, is subject to immediate disqualification for both parties involved and may include an indefinite ban from ESOC tournaments.

Are we allowed to abuse cover mode bug with china? Asking for a friend

I think a good general rule would be any bug patched out of TP/EP isn't allowed to be abused

Cover mode bug is banned with both China and Aztec.

You can only play it twice in a series. For example, in a Best of 5, you may play it ONCE before Game 4, then one more time after that.

The exception to this rule is France and China. After you have played one of these civilizations, you may not play either of them again for the rest of the series.

Unfortunately, we did not have enough people to create a RO2 bracket. We will reconsider the brackets.

The brackets will be out in a few hours.

If esoc is doing so much including providing admins and other stuff, why isn't this tournament casted on ESOCTV, anyways?

Because the vast majority of the ESOC audience is not interested in NR, and because we have other supremacy tournaments going on which have priority both caster- and channel-wise.

Cast was fine but might be better for players to screenshare with caster in casted games so players don't have to play without build limit, sucks to play without build limit but player requested it so.

-Players who have to watch can watch, others have option to not tune in.
-Supremacy tournaments could(of course) have been given preference over Nr20 games.
-Casting is always voluntary, it would depend on caster weather he wants to cast or not.
