"Fixed" "Random" Crates
"Fixed" "Random" Crates
I had an idea about making fixed crates for each civ to improve balance (wow what a new thought!?). But, the crate start also depends on the map. This would enable really finetuning each match up on each map. So for example to maybe nerf Ottoman on High plains, they only get 300w start. Or Germany gets 200w 200f on tp maps and 200w 300f on no tp. There are endless possibilites.

It will make game more one dimensional as you will have 1 outright best strat for each civ on the map.
Fine line to something great is a strange change.

Ah this again. It seems like a lot of people want it for balance but to me it is one of those things that just makes the game what it is. I would really miss the excitement when the map is loading and you are waiting to see which crates you have and the pressure to make a quick decision on how to use them, including the treasures that you may find in the first 30 seconds.
Re: "Fixed" "Random" Crates
There's also no way to shorthand this, someone would have to go through and code in the extra crates to each map one by one, which would break either RE compatibility or if you play on re maps you'll be stuck with 0 extra crates. (The orchard wagon for japan is added manually on no berry maps too btw)
Re: "Fixed" "Random" Crates
I think doing it map-by-map would be too confusing/annoying because you'd have to memorize the crates for each individual map.
Crates should just be fixed to wood start because it's the most dynamic start for every civ.
I think fixed crates are actually the opposite. You can be more creative because you know for sure what crates you will get, whereas a lot of the time there can be cool things you could do if you get the right crates, but because you only get them 25% of the time you can never rely on it.princeofcarthage wrote:It will make game more one dimensional as you will have 1 outright best strat for each civ on the map.

Fixed crates would solve many balance issues and as Mitoe said, with a wood start it would actually increase your options. But to be honest, it's not going to happen because many people don't like it.
Re: "Fixed" "Random" Crates
Random crates was the worst decision the dev team made, while fixing china crates was the realization of their mistake.

Actually a great idea tbh ngl. Of course, it will never make it through.Scroogie wrote:I had an idea about making fixed crates for each civ to improve balance (wow what a new thought!?). Re: "Fixed" "Random" Crates
I dont think youd have to memorize the crate starts at all. I dont know all the crate spawns France can have but just react to what I see the first 5 seconds. And you know of course whats possible with each crate start and can adapt your build accordingly, kinda like you adapt your macro while treasuring.Mitoe wrote:I think doing it map-by-map would be too confusing/annoying because you'd have to memorize the crates for each individual map.

we need strong fixed crates vs zoibois @GiBthedurrty
