Change or remove Halberdiers
Halbs are one of the worst units in the game due to a multitude of factors, the mains ones being:
-They are melee
-They are slow
-They are expensive
At this moment in the game they just occupy design space that could be filled by a more interesting unit that may actually see play. So I propose that we make a decision to either fix or remove them.
Thoughts?

Even with the speed upgrade Halbs for dutch are still quite useless, as their cost efficiency vs almost all units is pretty terrible. Especially considering the fact that those resources could have been spent on more effective units like dragoons or skirmishers or musketeers, or cannons.

you retard, you know that doesnt work. Halbs and pikes need more HP, they get completely destroyed by ranged units. Goons are soo tanky in comparison to melee units.rsy wrote:-> go dutch

i mean the proposal is just to give them a speed buff which would make them viable effectively. Even china with a effectively a 5 speed halb/rod style unit is considered pretty decent.

EP has buffed them a bit, and they're at least viable now. Though i think we should give them 4.5 speed now.

It's been discussed a lot. Last time it came up uit was basically concluded that 4.5 speed is all they need to be situationally viable. They are great for body blocking, something ruyters cannot hope to do and they can fight dopps or piki in hand combat in a pinch too

There is one situation where making halbs is ok: You know your opponent tries to win the next fight by making mostly cav and you only have 1 stable so you can not mass ruyters fast enough.

Borderline brooken against Brit, just lucky it's a bad MU for Dutch regardless. No further buffs necessary imo.

they are body blocking units, unlike goon type units which are anti-cav that shouldnt be melee

but défensive body block, to protect skirms or cannons. rods and Changdao are more aggressive melee

making them faster would just make them like uber-changdao, which would reduce civ diversity. if they are going to be buffed they should remain a slow, defensive anti-cav melee unit, just buff their HP or ranged resistance. they should get buffed in the direction of skull knights, not in the direction of rods.

dutch speedy halbs are pretty good and I like winning 3v3s by spamming them from 3 raxes into every corner of the map. They also get insane upgrades.

the only strat superior to fully upped speedy halbs is German fully upped speedy pikemen. Speed 6.5 and three upgrade cards make some really nice troops in imperial.

I quite like halbs situationally. Its never really about how cost effective they are its how good they are at protecting things. They're tanks, nearly hussar level melee damage, and able to beat nearly any unit they contact, even artillery if given the chance. They have to be slow or they'd be so broken. If anyone besides me remembers 5.2 speed dutch halbs with no penalties to infantry, you'll know what i mean. I think 4.5 speed would be ok, possibly even desirable, but it might scale too hard for dutch at nearly rodelero speed (5.85 speed).
