meh, i dont think that would really matter. lots of units don't accord to their historical age; longbows in age 4 for instance make no sense

The names of the ages are really not that important. The current ones don't make a lot of sense either. The "Imperial" age is misleading since Imperialism only occurred in Africa and Asia.

Discovery Age - Trading Age - Fortress Age - Kill-Everyone-Outside-Of-The-Fortress Age - Imperial Age

Sounds like what happened tbh

They are going to allow beta participants to stream from 8th to 14th October. So, I have heard.

Btw the gameplay changes being politically motivated or not. Will only add flavour to the game once they are balanced in coming months.. hopefully.

We got an official response about the 'leaked' content:
During the recent Age III: DE Stress Test we gave access to a limited number of press so they could capture game footage as part of pre-launch coverage. This footage and coverage is beginning to be published and was captured legitimately!

You'll get banned from ESOC, also please read the NDA they can do a lot more than just ban you.

Actually there were plans to use longbows against Napoleonic tactics of infantry columns, but the British leadership realized that to train a generation of longbowmen, one would need to start with their grandfathers... They regretted having broken the continuity of archer training in the past. In AOE3, you have this continuity.

That is interesting why did they not use crossbows? They require far less training. Would that be a range issue?

The mains advantages of longbows are range and rate of fire. Basically the aim is just to fire a lot of arrows very quickly in the general direction of the enemy's armies and hope they will hit something.
By contrast a crossbow is a precision weapon aimed at piercing armours. Basically the longbow is a machine gun while the crossbow is a sniper rifle.
ESOC : came for the game, stayed for the drama.
